@JamesGDAngelo @FischerKing64 This is purely anecdotal, but I grew up in NYC in the 70s and 80s. I literally ran most places because I was terrified as a child. When Giuliani came to power the City completely changed. People felt safe. It was cleaner. Etc. Again, anecdotal, but crime statistics are misleading

@FischerKing64 The Giuliani/Bloomberg myths are not good ones. Broadly discredited. Crime fell equally in all cities around the country at the same time, even some correlations to non-US as well.

The United States could turn itself into a well-functioning society in 5 years given the will and desire. But it would require ignoring claims of racism and civil rights abuse, aggressive policing, firm paternalism. Do to the country what Giuliani/Bloomberg did to NYC. Choices.

To speak of the United States of America as "our country" today is an aspiration, not a reality. We may think of it as ours, but our rulers don't. The military doesn't. Federal law enforcement doesn't. Business leaders don't. The American nation is not the USA/the Regime in DC.
