@sdjmaxwell Please give me a call to talk about this. I’m always interested to help farmers who want to do a better job of their financial management.

@KevinHursh1 A few years ago, Merle Good - the Alberta farm management specialist - recommended gross income as a metric on equipment investment thresholds. I think 1X to 2X gross income was recommended range. The per acre does not account for variations in productivity of different soil.

Equipment investment per acre is meant for only equipment, both owned and leased. This doesn't include grain storage and buildings. Stats Can lists SK averages at $340 per acre in brown soil zone, $384 in dark brown and $434 per acre in equipment investment for black soil zone.

@fulltimefarmer @KevinHursh1 Does this include grain storage and out buildings like shop etc

@skellerfarms Thx for raising this issue. A more significant flaw is the initial premise. The GOC broad goal is 30% reduction in Emmissions - not use. Research has, is and will continue to find the BMPs and product modifications that will maintain production with reduced Emmissions.

The MNP economic impact analysis on a 20% fertilizer reduction is flawed. The goal must have been to grab headlines and not do a proper analysis.

@LeftFieldCR Chuck - APAS did that type of analysis a year ago. I think it’s on their website. You may wish to confirm some of the basic assumptions.

So I've got a bit of time next week and was thinking of running a few calcs about added cost of CTax on truck and rail. Any info about fuel portion of trucking or rail would be welcome. Want to see how much it will add to crop input and grain movement costs.

FYI - Some digging into what is characterized as “groceries” in the past suggests it includes: restaurant purchases, alcohol beverages, tobacco (& now likely cannabis products). It begs the question of what eating nutritious foods for simply human health actually costs.

@GHGGuru Q: If satellites are able to detect changes in N2O emissions over time, will we be able now to “ground truth” the calculations - that have been extrapolations of cow paddy emissions - as to their accuracy as other better known emission changes happen?

@GeraldPilger - I was intrigued by your Hawaii related article and responded using Facebook messenger because I could not find another way to communicate one on one with you. Please check my Facebook account and search Messenger if you wish to answer some of the questions I had.

@KowalchukFarms The splines on our Wheatheart were a tapered shaft so a good hit should do it.

@rgstone1 I will try to put in a good word for you when I see him. As movies go, is this 1 or 2 degrees of separation?
