@ArcTheSnep And it’s why my pricing floor is set the way it is. What does travel, lodging, venue, permits, assistance, rentals, load in/out cost? My tools are my own problem, but there’s only so many ways to divide the costs of completing the job

@ArcTheSnep Though the gear is pricy, I think the logistics are far more why the art is expensive. All the logistics of getting both photographer and subject in a space, and perform the magic IRL makes the art form unique

I’ve seen people complaining about this and as a photographer I want to give my take on this… Most photographer’s cameras; (Cannon, Nikon, Sony, Fuji) are usually worth more than the singular fursuits that we are taking pictures of like deadass go look at Camera prices, the cost of quality glass (lens) with the right amount of 3-D pop, ND filters, diffusion filters, the cost of Adobe Lightroom, and the knowledge of how to even use the software to develop a good photo from a Raw file codec So if you’re are getting “FREE” high quality photos from your “friend” whose offering to do the “MOST THANKLESS JOB” of shooting photos for your socials platforms or following your entitled ass around a con with the cost a downpayment of a used car hanging around their neck and you aren’t blowing them or taking them out to diner then you SHOULD be paying them! These are prices would make a professional wedding photographer laugh your silly ass out out of his office if you offered to pay him this little If you don’t like these prices take your cheap ass to a phone store and go buy yourself an iPhone or an android pixel

Temperature check: I want to do rapid sessions at AC: ~30min, 8-12 finals, same day delivery This kinda fashion style. Environmental and graphic

Slots will be ~300. Up to 3 people in a group. Short sessions can flex easily around your schedule. Same day (or 12hr) turn around on finals

Not even limited to Fursuits. Kink, gear, fashion… show your flavor, showcase the con and city. Even willing to trade/discount in some cases for help with some other at-con projects: I want to document as many events as I can for a zine project

@NessyBenthur The incoming estimate was ~3k revenue between photos, classes, and print sales. But foot traffic was much lower than expected (for all vendors) and secondary offerings were not as popular as expected

@NessyBenthur ANW 2025 was done as staff photography: I was not paid, reimbursed, and attendees did not pay for photos The foot traffic and enthusiasm from that event is what made my ANW 2026 plans viable

ANW2026: I buy a vendor room to turn into a studio. Despite the rates being my cheapest ever, and same-day delivery… I lose money on the show Vendor: $1000 Parking: $400 Rentals: $200 Promos: $200 Slots were $85

@scramblefox I have a joke that “it costs 1k to get me in the room with my finger on the button”… and I hate it. But once you put all the logistics of being on-site together, it’s usually true 🙄 Not a single thing about gear, just transit, lodging, parking, setup/teardown

@darigankyrii IMO \all\ photography has been getting really good lately. With AI ruining the median styles, everyone still in the game is pushing really hard. And as photographers build their artistic voices, I think people are gonna be more willing to buy Good Stuff as they see more

@DozingUnicorn Good point! And I think furry photographers really try to find distinct spaces and aren’t often seeking to recreate scenes and aesthetics the way cosplayers might request to match a media.

Furries would not survive the world of cosplay photography rates and culture.

@darigankyrii Also, there is a huge difference where cosplay comes with an established IP and all the ephemera… and furries have created very personal and unique internal fictions that require more artistic collaboration from the photographer to fully realize

@darigankyrii The “consumption” is different. Cosplayers are playing the social media game much more seriously than furries, so the whole industry can be much more efficient. In furry, people are more often direct fans of an artist and want \their look\ specifically

@finalfantasyma2 The grind in fiber arts is awful. The labor was already significant, and supplies and shipping have also gotten worse.

Actually had this discussion with my husband last night when he asked why I undercharge for handmade plushies. Because people won’t buy it if I charge for actual labor. There also a big disconnect in people’s minds when it comes to handmade stuff, handmade does not equal factory quality or walmart prices. 🤦‍♀️
