So proud to work with such an amazing team at @QuinteHealth across the entire corporation. With more and more Canadians vaccinated each day, there is light at the end of the tunnel. But always our thoughts are with our patients and their families. youtube.com/watch?v=k7N-oH…

Sombre reminder: 1 year since our direct involvement with this pandemic. Couldn't be more proud of the courage and caring of the whole @QuinteHealth team, but not a day goes by that we don't think of those patients who didn't survive and their families. intelligencer.ca/news/the-year-…

Kudos to everyone at @QuinteHealth who helped organize the staff COVID-19 vaccination clinic for front-line staff. It was incredibly well-organized & efficient, and flowed smoothly. Clearly a lot of effort had been put into the organization and it showed! #TeamQHC #TeamVACCINE

The one thing about a virus is it's a biologic agent. It behaves according to the unwavering rules of the biologic world. It is unphased by politics, or money, or class, or power. The only response to a virus is one based on best available science, whether you like it or not.

Eggs, a whole & natural part of the human diet that has been with us through our evolution, have always been healthy. So is meat. The fact that anyone ever though otherwise speaks more to non-rigorous science and guidelines-before-proof than anything else bmj.com/content/368/bm…

These well-respected nutrition scientists concluded that there is no strong scientific evidence that the current population-wide recommendations in U.S. & Canada to reduce saturated fat (meat, eggs, & dairy) will prevent cardiovascular disease or death, and are not justified 4/4

This letter also points out that recommendations to lower saturated fat were based primarily on evidence it will lower LDL (bad cholesterol) in the blood, but reducing saturated fat DOES NOT lower the type of LDL most strongly associated with heart disease risk 3/4

On Feb 10&11 a group of senior established nutrition scientists (incl 3 former members of the U.S.DGAC) met for a 2-day workshop. At the conclusion they wrote a 4-page letter to USDA & HHS to ask for the lifting of limits on saturated fats based on the most rigorous science 1/4

I have attached this letter as a series of tweets. The scientists concluded that recent meta-analyses of RCTs and observational studies show no significant evidence for saturated fat consumption on CVD and total mortality, and may be associated with LOWER RISK OF STROKE 2/4

“We agreed that there is no evidence that the current population-wide upper limits on commonly consumed saturated fats ... will prevent cardiovascular disease or reduce mortality,” - Janet King, chair of 2005 DGAC & prof Nutritional Sciences at UC Berkeley nutritioncoalition.us/news/saturated…
