Congrats to Alan Nathan @pobguy for his more than well-deserved and long overdue Henry Chadwick Award from @sabr!

@NotRealCertain Yes - the movement would be parallel to the face of the cliff to the right or left depending upon whether the gyrospin points toward the pitcher or away - is that the same as 3:00 and 9:00 in your coordinate system?

@NotRealCertain tht.fangraphs.com/the-physics-of… Physics requires the spin direction to remain unchanged so the spin will always point across the canyon. Since the direction of the velocity of the ball changes, the gyro spins becomes more and more side spin and the ball will move along the canyon wall.

@pobguy It is very rare when a physics book on a specific topic is still a "go to" 30 years after it was first published. Still I won't forgive him for being the only one to hold the title I covet - "Physicist to the National League."

One more point: I just realized that Bob passed away on the 60th anniversary of Ted Williams home run in his final plate appearance. Bob was a big Red Sox fan, and perhaps he timed his passing with that date in mind. Thinking that thought brings a smile to my face.

I just learned that Robert K. Adair passed away on September 28 at the age of 96. He was known to me long before my interest in the physics of baseball, since we had very similar backgrounds in experimental nuclear and particle physics. 1/

@NotRealCertain If you are able to quantify your seam-shifted wakes sufficiently, the current efforts at pitch design will seam (pun) like child's play.

Dodgers World Series Trivia: 1. Number of appearances? 2. How many have they won? 3. Largest number of games lost in a single series? 4. How many against the Yankees? 5. How many appearances two years in a row? 6. How many appearances three times in a row?

@NotRealCertain I see your question as an impedance matching problem between the body coupling with the ball. I'd take a deeper look, but I don't know nearly enough physiology to get the needed data.

This am my wife tells me she stayed up to watch the end of the Dodger game and gives me a quiz. In the 10th with one out and only one pitch thrown, LA has runners on first and third. Explain.

#Statcast Distance on batted balls relative to league average Hit @ 100mph 24-32 degrees of launch (ideal HR angle) 0 to 24 degrees of pull (limited hook/slice)

@tangotiger @EliBenPorat @pobguy Sorry - Just saw this...First thought: wind makes more difference than elevation. Chase only has wind on a few days while T-Mobile has wind even with the roof on (I think).

@EliBenPorat If I shift Chase over by 1 degree, I get something that is more uniform. I don't know that that necessarily makes sense. I would think the higher in the air, the larger the effect. So the first chart, unadjusted, is closer. Maybe @DrBaseballPhD or @pobguy has more insight?
