Suspect Arrested with Explosives in Springs: A 38-year-old foreign national was arrested in the Everest Informal Settlement in Springs on Wednesday after being found in possession of explosives allegedly linked to illegal mining activities. The arrest was made by members of the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department (EMPD) Intervention Unit and SAPS Crime Intelligence following a tip-off. Officers identified the suspect carrying a black bag and intercepted him after he allegedly attempted to flee. A search led to the recovery of 11 Superpower blasting cartridges, 11 cap fuses and two detonator fuses. Explosives experts and the Local Criminal Record Centre were called to the scene to process and secure the items. The suspect has been detained at Springs Police Station and is expected to appear in the Springs Magistrate’s Court on a charge of possession of explosives. Authorities say the recovered items are commonly associated with illegal mining operations.
