I finally made it into the daily mail for lecturing in a loud shirt (Orlebar Brown, bought in their sale last year), barefoot, while at a conference in Portugal, on my annual leave, at no cost to the NHS. CEPD for doctors is compulsory and the conference was organised long before the strikes, so not “convenient”.

An excellent article on saying no. It's both healthy and necessary. We should recognise that yes/no is a spectrum, and the best no leaves the asker feeling like they got a yes. Three techniques for saying no effectively: 1) The "yes no": where we say yes to the need, but no to the ask. 2) The "material no": where we don't actually say no, but say yes with a reasonable materials list. 3) The "priority no": where we turn the request into a leadership conversation about what’s most important. medium.com/onebigthought/… By @juddantin

@GreenED_uk Great work. Lots of units using methoxyflurane and limiting their nitrous use more considerately. Knowledge about ordering and top up processes is gradually reducing consumption

End of wk 2. Are you thinking about reducing N2O (and its huge carbon footprint) in your ED? Patients come 1st. Sometimes nitrous is the best analgesia, but we can streamline our delivery. In many cases it isn't and we can switch to alternatives #GreenED greened.rcem.ac.uk
