Today, we celebrate International Women's Day 2026 by honoring the incredible women advancing community health across Tanzania. 💜 @AmrefTanzania, women are at the heart of change serving as community health workers, nurses, leaders, and advocates who ensure communities have access to quality, equitable healthcare. Investing in women’s leadership means building stronger, healthier communities. Together, let’s continue accelerating progress toward health equity for all. #InternationalWomensDay #IWD2026 #AccelerateAction #WomenInHealth #AmrefTanzania @DrFlo6 @Aisa_Muya @Amref_Worldwide

✅ NCDs cannot wait — and neither can our response. At the 2nd Primary Health Care Congress in Nairobi, Dr. Florence Temu, Country Director of @AmrefTanzania , joined global health leaders during a partner-led session hosted by Jaramogi Oginga Odinga University of Science and Technology to discuss strengthening the management of non-communicable diseases in rural settings. 💡 NCDs remain underfinanced and face major human resource gaps, particularly in rural communities. @DrFlo6 emphasized the need to integrate NCD services into every health financing envelope and program rather than treating them as stand alone initiatives. She also called for health insurance schemes to include essential NCD services from screening and diagnostics to treatment while ensuring medicines and services remain affordable. 👩🏾‍⚕️ Community Health Workers are also central to expanding access through task shifting and community-based service delivery. Her key message highlighted the “3E approach” to NCD control:
🔍 Early detection through community screening
💊 Early diagnosis and treatment with access to essential diagnostics and medicines
🚑 Early referral to the appropriate level of care Strong governance, effective health information systems, and community engagement remain critical to reducing the growing burden of NCDs. #PHCCongress #PrimaryHealthCare #NCDs #CommunityHealth #AmrefHealthAfrica #HealthForAll @AmrefUniversity @Amref_Worldwide

Uzazi ni Maisha 🤱🏽🏥 | Partnership in action In Zanzibar, @AmrefTanzania , led by our Board Chair @tonychams & Country Director @DrFlo6, handed over essential medical equipment to the Ministry of Health, strengthening safe delivery services in 28 health facilities across the islands. The handover ceremony was graced by Dr. Mngereza Mzee Miraji, Permanent Secretary, @mohznz1, highlighting the shared commitment to maternal and newborn health. This milestone marks the fourth and final phase of the #UzaziNiMaisha initiative, delivered in close collaboration with the @mohznz1@AbsaTanzania, and committed partners united by one shared goal safer childbirth for every mother and newborn. Together, we are strengthening health systems, supporting frontline health workers, and ensuring life saving care reaches where it is needed most 🤝.

𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟕, 𝟏𝟗𝟓𝟕 marked the beginning of our mission to save lives. 𝟔𝟖 𝐲𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐬 𝐥𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐫, 𝐨𝐧 𝐀𝐮𝐠𝐮𝐬𝐭 𝟕, 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟓, we faced our greatest loss. As we honour our colleagues who perished in service, we commit to carrying forward the life-saving mission they so bravely upheld.

On 7th August, my birthday, we were visited by tragedy of unimaginable proportions. Launched on 7th August 1957 (yes same date!) @AMREFFlyingDocs has focused on the mission of saving lives through our flying doctors service - safely, reliably. On this day, 68 years later to the date and for the first time ever, 4 of those we value most in this duty, our emergency response team, perished without a chance to be saved. So suddenly not even the service they have so professionally carried out for years of saving the lives of others was of use to them. Destined for Hargeisa (Somaliland) to save the life of a critically ill child, death became their destiny taking with them two other lives in Mwihoko 😢 We are gutted, devastated with no answers to our questions. As we mourn and celebrate our heroes across our @Amref_Worldwide family together with their families, friends and the communities they served, we will let the mission they lived and died for continue to shine, supported as we always are by all around the world 🙏 Fare thee well our colleagues, our friends 💔
