The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has released a video ahead of Easter decrying antisemitism and calling on Catholics to “speak out clearly” against it. “The Church, mindful of the patrimony she shares with the Jews and moved not by political reasons but by the Gospel’s spiritual love, decries hatred, persecutions, displays of antisemitism directed against Jews at any time and by anyone,” Archbishop Alexander Sample of Portland, Oregon, said in a March 18 video message posted by the USCCB. “The Jewish community is attacked at a far higher rate than any other religious group in the United States,” he said. “If we Catholics, in truly living out the Gospel, are to defend religious freedom with integrity, we must clearly speak out against antisemitism.” The USCCB’s message comes less than 20 days before the Easter Triduum, during which Catholics “celebrate the central events of our faith,” Sample said. However, the archbishop said, “sadly, the celebration of Easter has at times been the occasion for outbursts of hatred and even violence against Jews.” “The guilt for the suffering of Jesus is especially great in us because we who profess to know Christ deny him with our sins,” he said, citing the Catechism of the Council of Trent, which rejects the claim, known as the myth of deicide, that the Jewish people bear the guilt for the death of Jesus, as well as the Second Vatican Council document Nostra Aetate. “Indeed, Good Friday ought to be an occasion for us to return to the Lord, not to scapegoat others,” he said, describing the myth of deicide as “a profound misunderstanding of what took place on Good Friday” and a significant source of historic and modern antisemitism. “As Catholics, we are called to walk in the truth, and so to reject the conspiracies and lies that lead to harassment and even violence against our Jewish brothers and sisters,” Sample said. Nathan Diament, executive director of public policy for the Union of Orthodox Jewish Congregations in America, welcomed Sample’s remarks, telling EWTN News: “The statement by Archbishop Sample on behalf of the USCCB could not come at a more important time with bad actors weaponizing Catholicism to spread antisemitic views.” “We are grateful for the leadership of the Church itself stating unequivocally that the Church rejects those assertions and repudiates antisemitism,” he said. The Church’s views on antisemitism recently became the center of controversy when media personality Carrie Prejean Boller was removed from the White House-sponsored Religious Liberty Commission last month for remarks she made during a hearing focused on antisemitism. The former Miss California repeatedly stated during the hearing that her Catholic faith prevented her from embracing Zionism, despite Catholic teaching that does not oppose Israel as a nation or the Jewish people. Boller also repeatedly pressed Jewish panelists on whether her views made her an antisemite. Catholic teaching does not explicitly oppose Zionism, the movement supporting Jewish self‑determination in a homeland in Israel. Ancient Israel is seen as God’s chosen people through whom God revealed himself and prepared the way for the coming of Jesus Christ. The Catholic Church universally condemns antisemitism. The Church recognizes Israel’s fundamental right to exist. ewtnnews.com/world/us/archb…

When in town, I’ll definitely try to attend, particularly Tenebrae, which is one of the most intense, emotional and powerful Masses for me. “Who today likes to repeat the moving psalm of Miserere and to repeat with the Psalmist Peccatum meum contra me est semper: ‘My sin is always before me?’ And how can a Christian soul not move away from the thought of sin if the image of the crucifix is always before his eyes?” We’re called to repentance and full conversion, to honour the Messiah: our Lord Jesus Christ.

Dear brothers and sisters in Christ, I invite you to join me for Holy Week at St. Mary’s Cathedral in northwest Portland. I extend a special invitation to those who will be received into full communion with the Church at the Easter Vigil to be present for these sacred liturgies, as we commemorate the Passion, Death, and glorious Resurrection of the Lord Jesus Christ.

Too bad Old Testament has our dear prophets and was founded by God, Islam was founded 600 centuries after the lifetime of Jesus Christ, by a person who isn’t a prophet, killed so many people, our Church (the popes of that time included) warned us all when Mohammed came out (check history and what happened, they called him satanic and dangerous), he married a 9 year old and saw satan who made him see the virgins who were waiting for him in Paradise etc, in a vision, or was it God in your opinion? My father was a Muslim and I read the whole Quran- again, these aren’t lies.

@DrJanetWilliams @ArchbishpSample As far as the "brothers and sisters because of their root", no, their religion is two centuries younger than Christanity. They're no more or less our brothers than Islam.

I urge my fellow Christians to approach these matters not through the lens of personal ideology or political preference, but according to the moral principles handed on by Holy Mother Church and her magisterium. All Christians must reject unjust discrimination on the basis of religion or ethnicity. But that principle must not be misused to silence legitimate criticism of governments.
Ted Cruz@tedcruz

Amen. Thank you for speaking with great clarity. 🙏✝️🙏 Catholics & Protestants & Jews should all be resolutely standing together in defense of our shared values. Those seeking to divide us do not have America’s interests in their hearts.

Like @ArchbishpSample emphasized- The Council of Trent (1545–1563) and its resulting Catechism of the Council of Trent (1566) did NOT hold the Jewish people as a whole, collectively responsible for the death of Jesus Christ. Instead, the teaching of that era emphasized that all humanity shares the guilt for the crucifixion, with Christians who fall into sin bearing a more serious burden. This is our basis. Salvation is not just “free”, he died for OUR sins to give us all the chance to convert, repent and follow Him. It’s not just about Second Vatican Council. We are called to pray for their conversion. We can’t deny our history (like the Old Testament and the prophets), so yes, we can call them old brothers and sisters because of these roots. All those influencers are antisemitic, they go far beyond critics of governments, they’re spreading fake propaganda to fuel grave hate and division, they use Christ to keep going with their agenda and conspiracy theories and their hate towards Jews, blaming them for every single problem in the world and for the Passion of our Lord like they’re the only people who are guilty which is NOT Catholic and theologically wrong, this is NOT ok. I’m sorry people get offended, but these aren’t lies.

Today, I send my best wishes to Catholics and other Christians celebrating the Feast of Saint Joseph—the earthly father of Jesus Christ and one of the most revered figures in the Bible. Saint Joseph was a model father, husband, and worker, as well as a living embodiment of Christian virtue.  He spent his life working tirelessly, without accolades or recognition, to protect his family and raise the Son of God.  Through every trial and tribulation, Saint Joseph led his family with dignity, strength, and moral courage.  In the face of uncertainty and danger, time and again, he valiantly surrendered to God’s will with faith, fortitude, humility, and obedience—playing a central role in the life of Jesus Christ and the history of salvation. Saint Joseph also holds a distinct place in American culture, especially for the Italian-American community.  Every March 19, Catholics in New Orleans, Louisiana, and throughout the Nation construct beautiful altars in his honor.  From the factories of St. Louis, Missouri, and the deserts of Santa Fe, New Mexico, to churches, chapels, and homes all across our country, Catholics have credited him with extraordinary miracles.  He is recognized as the head of the Holy Family, the patron saint of workers, and the “Terror of Demons,” and he remains revered by countless citizens for his tremendous example of what it means to be a man, father, and husband. In recent years, our Nation has witnessed the rise of an extremist cultural movement that has sought to weaken the values championed by Saint Joseph.  But my Administration is offering a much brighter vision for our rising generation.  Instead of indoctrinating our young men with radicalism and hate, we must encourage them to embrace faith, get married, start a family, and raise the next generation of proud, freedom-loving, God-fearing American citizens.  Guided by his example, we will never stop fighting for Saint Joseph’s legacy in our homes, churches, culture, and public square. On his feast day, we honor Saint Joseph’s incredible life, we pay tribute to his countless silent sacrifices, and we vow to forge a radiant American future marked by the timeless values of faith in God, love of family, and devotion to human freedom.

Happy St. Joseph’s Day. This is a beautiful prayer, urging his quiet intercession: O blessed Sleeping Saint Joseph, guardian of silence and hidden miracles, I come to you today with an open heart, burdened by an urgent need that only heaven can resolve. You who, in your rest, receive divine messages and make the impossible possible, hear my plea in this moment of distress. Saint Joseph, loving and protective father, I entrust to you this situation that troubles me, this problem I do not know how to resolve. (Mention your petition) Just as God revealed His will to you in dreams, I ask you to intercede for me and present my need before Him. I place this concern under your care, trusting that even as you rest, heaven is at work on my behalf. May every difficulty be transformed into a solution, may every obstacle be removed, and may peace return to my life. Sleeping Saint Joseph, cover me with your protection, guide my steps, and open paths where I now see only uncertainty. I trust in your silent power, your steadfast faith, and your fatherly care. For I know that what I place in your hands today will, by God’s grace, become a miracle tomorrow. Amen.

Using zionism as excuse (because antisemitic sounds too bad)- They blame Jews and Israel for literally everything, they ignore all the rest, this is a demonic and brainwashing issue that goes much beyond a simple “idea”. We’re getting back to hitlerian times, they forgot what the magnificent Pope Pius XII did to save many Jews (he even offered his Castel Gandolfo’s bedroom to help Jewish women giving birth) and most importantly: They forget the Sacred Scripture and Tradition. This is a grave matter. And yes, I’m a traditional Catholic, but I have nothing to do with this antisemitism “trend”. One can disagree with a politician or government’s choices but it doesn’t change the truth.

If God is asking something difficult of you that you did not expect nor desire, turn to St. Joseph for help. Remember that whenever the Lord asks us to do what may not seem possible, he pledges to give the graces we need. St Joseph trusted that promise—-and so must we!

Today the Church celebrates the Solemnity St. Joseph, the spouse of the Blessed Virgin Mary and the foster-father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Guardian of the Redeemer, and Patron of the Universal Church. St. Joseph was an ordinary manual laborer although descended from the royal house of David. In the designs of Providence he was destined to become the spouse of the Mother of God. His high privilege is expressed in a single phrase, "Foster-father of Jesus." About him Sacred Scripture has little more to say than that he was a just man—an expression which indicates how faithfully he fulfilled his high trust of protecting and guarding God's greatest treasures upon earth, Jesus and Mary. The darkest hours of his life may well have been those when he first learned of Mary's pregnancy; but precisely in this time of trial Joseph showed himself great. His suffering, which likewise formed a part of the work of the redemption, was not without great providential import: Joseph was to be, for all times, the trustworthy witness of the Messiah's virgin birth. After this, he modestly retires into the background of holy Scripture. Of St. Joseph's death the Bible tells us nothing. There are indications, however, that he died before the beginning of Christ's public life. His was the most beautiful death that one could have, in the arms of Jesus and Mary. Humbly and unknown, he passed his years at Nazareth, silent and almost forgotten he remained in the background through centuries of Church history. Only in more recent times has he been accorded greater honor. Liturgical veneration of St. Joseph began in the fifteenth century, fostered by Sts. Brigid of Sweden and Bernadine of Siena. St. Teresa, too, did much to further his cult. At present there are two major feasts in his honor. On March 19 our veneration is directed to him personally and to his part in the work of redemption, while on May 1 we honor him as the patron of workmen throughout the world and as our guide in the difficult matter of establishing equitable norms regarding obligations and rights in the social order. (Excerpted from The Church's Year of Grace, Pius Parsch)

From the treatise Against Heresies by Saint Irenaeus, bishop Through foreshadowings of the future, Israel was learning reverence for God and perseverance in his service From the beginning God created man out of his own generosity. He chose the patriarchs to give them salvation. He took his people in hand, teaching them, unteachable as they were, to follow him. He gave them prophets, accustoming man to bear his Spirit and to have communion with God on earth. He who stands in need of no one gave communion with himself to those who need him. Like an architect he outlined the plan of salvation to those who sought to please him. By his own hand he gave food in Egypt to those who did not see him. To those who were restless in the desert he gave a law perfectly suited to them. To those who entered the land of prosperity he gave a worthy inheritance. He killed the fatted calf for those who turned to him as Father, and clothed them with the finest garment. In so many ways he was training the human race to take part in the harmonious song of salvation. For this reason John in the book of Revelation says: His voice was as the voice of many waters. The Spirit of God is indeed a multitude of waters, for the Father is rich and great. As the Word passed among all these people he provided help in generous measure for those who were obedient to him, by drawing up a law that was suitable and fitting for every circumstance. He established a law for the people governing the construction of the tabernacle and the building of the temple, the choice of Levites, the sacrifices, the offerings, the rites of purification and the rest of what belonged to worship. He himself needs none of these things. He is always filled with all that is good. Even before Moses existed he had within himself every fragrance of all that is pleasing. Yet he sought to teach his people, always ready though they were to return to their idols. Through many acts of indulgence he tried to prepare them for perseverance in his service. He kept calling them to what was primary by means of what was secondary, that is, through foreshadowings to the reality, through things of time to the things of eternity, through things of the flesh to the things of the spirit, through earthly things to the heavenly things. As he said to Moses: You will fashion all things according to the pattern that you saw on the mountain. For forty days Moses was engaged in remembering the words of God, the heavenly patterns, the spiritual images, the foreshadowings of what was to come. Saint Paul says: They drank from the rock that followed them, and the rock was Christ. After speaking of the things that are in the law he continues: All these things happened to them as symbols: they were written to instruct us, on whom the end of the ages has come. Through foreshadowings of the future they were learning reverence for God and perseverance in his service. The law was therefore a school of instruction for them, and a prophecy of what was to come.
