@Benrapeaburglar @Patar4950 Idk if there's a guide for this type of reference in English but to me it'd sound perfectly fine to call a female athlete by their current name and then add a née or smth. And in his case specifically wouldn't it just be respectful to use Kareem cause of the story behind it?

@DrJeezo @Patar4950 His name was Lew Alcindor at the time. There’s nothing wrong with referring to him like that in the past tense. It like calling a female athlete her maiden name in the past tense.
