Wild that as a self confessed leftie following mainly lefties I get a timeline full of race baiting Islamophobic diatribe on here. This algorithm fail is not accidental but also futile in changing my morals. The loons may be loud but the silent majority haven't lost their minds.

Thinking about how trees and land absorbed almost no carbon And that last year was the hottest on record And then going back to thinking about what I'm having for dinner tonight It's hard to respond to the climate crisis with the required urgency...

You can’t even tell in the first headline that Israel is the one bombing Lebanon. The contrast in headlines is unbelievable.

Notice not one civilian was killed by Iran's illegal strikes on Israel Also notice Israel's illegal air strikes and ground invasion of Lebanon killing hundreds The narrative seems to be that Iran is causing escalation For a year we've witnessed civilians relentlessly attacked

We have proof that women like Elle Macpherson who choose not to have mainstream cancer treatments for breast cancer are 6x more likely to die - thanks to @sky__john and co. I’d urge women not to assume that because it’s worked for her so far, it will work for you. academic.oup.com/jnci/article/1…

The worst thing you can say to someone who is grieving is nothing The heaviness of grief makes people feel uncomfortable, uncertain about the 'right' thing to say Probably because no words make things better, but no words at all make a grieving person feel even more alone

Don't fret I continue to pay my student loan from Australia. Given my repayments are 9% of my salary and my salary is higher here I am actually paying more than I would be if I were still in the UK.

Speaking to my UK doctor bestie this evening I asked if she was excited by the election because things are going to get better She said "I feel dead inside" This isn't just about paying doctors pittance. It's about a system drowning in moral injury that's a fast lane to burn out

Coming to Australia I realised I actually love being a doctor. Here I happily spend my personal time studying for surgical exams, doing research, going in on off days for my learning. I personally, in difficult circumstances, found it hard to keep that love for doctoring at home.

For context... I left the UK just over a year after the death of my brother. I received very little support from my supervisor at this time. I watched countless people die from COVID. I worked in an unsafe system. I had almost given up on my dream of becoming a paediatric surgeon

A very fair question... I want to work in a functional NHS. I graduated during COVID and worked in an unsafe system that showed no regard for me as a human and offered little in terms of training opportunities. I'm not sure I'd still be a doctor if I hadn't left

@DrJulia_Simons @wesstreeting How often did you campaign against nhs reform before you abandoned it ?

@drake_alex_Mon @wesstreeting Given I've lived in Australia for a mere 1.5 years and the UK for my whole life I remain unsurprisingly invested in the UK...

Once an 'angry' medical student I'm now a very content paediatric surgery registrar in Australia @wesstreeting Australian nurses in Victoria are getting a 28.4% pay rise... Full pay restoration is a minimum and it is possible ✨

To be honest the pay to me is more reflective of the value that it is put on healthcare Eg. If I were to be paid more in the UK but had to work in a struggling system with poor training opportunities that wouldn't tempt me back (I love the UK, I love my family and friends...)
