Took a night off opera & Proms to honour #OzzyOsbourne with a heavy metal music treat. My fave song from Aussie band #Spiderbait? ‘You’re Fucken Awesome” - which they are. Janet on bass, Whitty on guitar & Kram drumming in his thongs, blew the roof off. Ozzy would have loved it.

What a privilege to experience priceless heritage first hand 🙌 Just back from Italy & my first visit to the Colosseum. Fascinated by the ancient & modern graffiti — a surprising connection between the past & present. #Colosseum #Heritage #Archaeology #Rome #Italy

Lyndall Ryan, an amazing historian whose work I found inspirational, and latterly a friend who helped me get through cancer treatment with stories of her own response, has died. Her work on the frontier massacres map will always be a vindication of truth-telling in History: c21ch.newcastle.edu.au/colonialmassac… I hope that the posthumous publication of her chapter in hurstpublishers.com/book/the-truth… will be a fitting tribute. Ann Curthoy’s obituary is worth reading: amp.theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

When the world feels too dark, read a children's book. When you need to feel hope, read a children's book. When you need to believe in magic, read a children's book. Children's lit is a balm to those worn out & in need of wonder. Never dismiss these books as "just for children."

The AHA is saddened by the passing of Lyndall Ryan. Few in our profession have had a greater social impact. She received an AHA Lifetime Achievement Award in 2022 to celebrate her remarkable scholarship and influence. Our deepest sympathies to her family, friends and colleagues.
