As Told To Say: August, The Month of DIVINE WINGS “Ye have seen what I did unto the Egyptians, and how I bare you on eagles’ wings, and brought you unto myself” (Exodus 19:4). The wings of God are a great place of security for the believer. “I bare you on eagles’ wings,” the Lord says. He will never allow us to fall. “The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms” (Deuteronomy 33:7. “As an eagle stirreth up her nest, fluttereth over her young, spreadeth abroad her wings, taketh them, beareth them on her wings: So the LORD alone did lead him” Deuteronomy 32:11-12. God bears us on His wings, so that He can bring us to Himself The wings of God are a place of renewed strength. “But they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint” Isaiah 40:31. “Who satisfieth thy mouth with good things; so that thy youth is renewed like the eagle’s” (Psalm 103:5). The wings of God are a place of healing. “But unto you that fear my name shall the Sun of righteousness arise with healing in His wings” Malachi 4:2. The wings of God are a place of refuge. “Yea, in the shadow of thy wings will I make my refuge, until these calamities be overpast” (Psalm 57:1). “He shall cover thee with His feathers, and under His wings shalt thou trust” (Psalm 91:4). The wings of God are a place of rejoicing. “Because thou hast been my help, therefore in the shadow of thy wings will I rejoice” (Psalm 63:7). “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty” (Psalm 91:1). NPS The Story of David running from King Saul in the deserts of Judea is a familiar one to many of us. (You can find it in its entirety in 1 Samuel.)  David experienced and wrote much of the Psalms while he ran from King Saul and hid in the desert and in caves seeking shelter and safety from his pursuers.  David proclaims of the Lord in Psalm 36:5-7 (NLT): “Your unfailing love, O Lord, is as vast as the heavens; your faithfulness reaches beyond the clouds. Your righteousness is like the mighty mountains, your justice like the ocean depths. You care for people and animals alike, O Lord. How precious is your unfailing love, O God! All humanity finds shelter in the shadow of your wings.” Psalm 46:1-2 (NLT): “God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. So we will not fear when earthquakes come and the mountains crumble into the sea.” Trouble in the form of the earth quaking and mountains crumbling into the sea are big, disastrous events.  These events might be just as troublesome, or even more so, than a global pandemic.  The prophet David is making it clear in these sections of poetry that the Lord will be with us in ALL types and times of trouble.  God hides us in the day of trouble as stated in Psalm 27:5 (NLT): “For in the day of trouble He will keep me safe in His holy tent. In the secret place of His tent, He will hide me. He will set me high upon a rock.” For those of us who know and follow the Lord Jesus, His spirit lives within us, and He is with us, and we are always with Him in His holy tent.  David also says, “He will lift us up on high and upon a rock.” We know from other passages in Psalms that God is our rock, our shelter, and our strong tower of refuge.  Psalm 91:1-6 (NLT): “Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. This I declare about the Lord: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety; He is my God, and I trust him.  For He will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease.  He will cover you with his feathers. He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection. Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day. Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday.” -GSW-

Don't let a misconception of "forgiving" bring you into bondage. The act of forgiving a person must be separated from the restoration of fellowship. Forgiveness is unconditional, a commandment of love regardless of the pain caused by the individual or group. It is a decision not to seek to avenge wrong done. Restoration of fellowship with a person is however hinged on repentance I.e changed behavior. Many are either living under guilt of not forgiving because it is not practical to 're open their lives to those who hurt them seeing the damage they caused and no indication of a change of position or attitude on their part. Some then with this sense of guilt 're open their lives prematurely and not only does the damage continue but it enables the person with the character defect reinforcing it. This individual now no longer has a reference point to deeply reflect. The fact that one has placed himself out of close proximity to a person does not mean they have not forgiven that person as also the fact that one is found in the company of a person does not confirm genuine love for the individual. Many hide hatred in their hearts with lying lips back stabbing "friends." People should know the definition of forgiveness which is a decision not to avenge wrong done, to harbour no ill-will towards that person, speak no evil of even when an opportunity is given but to have peace in your heart towards him. This also means one prays and does good as one find the opportunity to.

FEDERAL MINISTRY OF HEALTH AND SOCIAL WELFARE PRESS RELEASE CLEARING THE AIR ON SALT: A HEALTH ADVISORY FOR ALL NIGERIANS Abuja, Nigeria The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare has observed a widely circulated video in which a respected religious leader discourages Nigerians from heeding medical advice on salt consumption. While we deeply respect the important role of faith and religious leaders in our society, it is crucial to correct misinformation that poses a risk to public health. Salt is not the enemy. Salt contains sodium, an essential mineral that supports vital body functions such as nerve activity, muscle movement, and fluid balance. However, the concern lies in excessive consumption, not in salt itself. In line with global best practices, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Nigerian Government recommend a maximum of 5 grams of salt per day (about one teaspoonful). Going beyond this threshold increases the risk of preventable disease and death. Research shows that most Nigerians consume more than double the recommended daily sodium intake. This excessive intake is a major contributor to high blood pressure, stroke, heart failure, and kidney disease—non-communicable conditions that continue to claim thousands of lives annually. To address this growing health crisis, the Ministry is implementing a comprehensive national sodium reduction strategy. This includes the launch of the National Sodium Reduction Guidelines, which aim to reduce sodium content across all food categories—from processed and packaged foods to meals prepared at home or sold in restaurants and by street vendors. This initiative mandates food manufacturers, regulators, and the public in lowering sodium intake without compromising quality and nutrition. We wish to state clearly: Doctors do not lie. Nigeria’s health professionals are trained to offer evidence-based guidance rooted in decades of scientific research and patient care. The presence of regulated sodium compounds in certain medications is not equivalent to dietary salt (sodium chloride) and is safe when prescribed appropriately. We reaffirm that faith and science are not at odds—they can and should work together for the well-being of our people. We therefore urge Nigerians to seek accurate health advice from qualified medical professionals and to join hands with the Ministry in reducing the burden of preventable diseases. The Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare remains committed to promoting healthier lives through accurate information, preventive action, and respectful collaboration with all segments of society—including our valued faith communities. Dear Honorable Minister of Aviation, Barr. Festus Keyamo, SAN, @fkeyamo Thank you for the tremendous work you're doing to improve the aviation sector in Nigeria. It’s evident that progress is being made, and as a citizen, I truly appreciate your commitment. However, I’d like to respectfully highlight an important area that still requires attention, inclusion for other disability clusters, especially the Deaf community. Today, the Deaf-in-Tech (@deafintech) team flew to Uyo to start tech training for the Deaf people in Uyo in partnership with Hands on Data. While we were excited about the journey, our experience revealed some gaps in accessibility at our airports that we hope the ministry can address. Although the domestic terminal has made commendable strides in providing accessibility for wheelchair users, it appears little has been done to accommodate travelers who are Deaf. Flight announcements are made solely through audio, via speakers, without any visual alternatives. This assumes that all travelers can hear, which isn't always the case. We humbly appeal to you, Honourable Minister, to consider installing visual display screens for flight announcements, just like what’s obtainable in many international airports. This would go a long way in ensuring that Deaf travelers have equal access to vital travel information. That said, I must sincerely commend Ibom Air for giving us a seamless and thoughtful experience. Though the airport lacked a sign language interpreter, the airline assigned a staff member to walk our team through the check-in and boarding process. Onboard, we met Blessing, a member of the cabin crew, who ensured we were comfortable. She even handed us a note explaining emergency procedures, and throughout the flight, she checked on us with a kind smile. That small gesture meant a lot. Thank you, Ibom Air (@ibomairlines) The Deaf-in-Tech team looks forward to flying with you again. Honourable Minister, we hope you read this and will act on it. Nigeria’s aviation sector is improving, and with a little more intentionality, it can be truly inclusive for all. @asemota The right hand of God is not literal. It is a figurative appeal for Omnipotence to come to our help. A metaphor for God’s power.

You may not like what I say, but I will say it. Dogma is the root of all lack of critical thinking. It is safe and comfortable but very flawed. Over the weekend, I listened to a prayer in the church referring to "the right hand of God," and I realized we are still stuck on ancient beliefs. Yes, I believe in God, but I don't think God looks in any way human. God is the entirety of the universe that science discovered after religion once told us that we were the center of all creation. If religion doesn't evolve with humanity, it becomes irrelevant. I strongly recommend reading Homo Deus by Hariri. Man created most of religion from a lack of understanding of science, and it became a valuable sociological construct.
