Guardians of the Sea
The only reason Phra Chulachomklao Fort — Fort Phi Suea Samut (ป้อมผีเสื้อสมุทร) — still survives today, while the other 23 forts in the defensive network disappeared, is because it stood on an island. It escaped being swallowed by urban expansion.
Fort Phi Suea Samut, a hybrid-style fort, was one of 25 forts built during the reign of King Rama II. Its structure used early Rattanakosin-era brick-and-mortar construction, later coated with European architectural influences and eventually fitted with “Suea Mop” cannons during the reign of King Rama V.
The fort sits 9 kilometers from the mouth of the Chao Phraya River at a narrow military bottleneck, a classic chokepoint defense position.
It saw combat against French warships during the Franco-Siamese Crisis of 1893 (R.S. 112). The spent artillery shell shown in the second image was recovered near the river mouth and is believed to date from that battle.
Nearly every brick used in the fort bears the stamp:
“RAMSAY & Co. LONDON”
Experience this surviving fortress of “Siam Praakan: R.S. 112” this June 13.

@pureguava10300 @premium I've received a "similar" notice that my account was "SUSPENDED from ADVERTISING REVENUE "even though my account isn't monetized !!!
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

So this DM explains a lot.
X says my monetized account was revoked for “manipulation and spam.”
Meanwhile behind the scenes it appears this prick and his little crew were coordinating fraudulent reports to take the account down.

@pureguava10300 Nice !!!
This reminds me of similar carvings, just 35km north of Angkor on Kbal Spean.
Will never forget that trip

In 1978, four villagers from Ban Khae Don, Village No. 1, in Nam Yuen District discovered something extraordinary deep in the forest.
Samrong Lokul, Det Sarat, Noosin Pawo, and Tueng Duangbuppha had gone out fishing and gathering food when they found a carved image of Narayana Reclining on the Cosmic Serpent hidden beneath the water along the right bank of the Lam Dom Yai stream.
The stone carving measures about 120 centimeters long and 50 centimeters high. It depicts Narayana reclining on his right side atop the body of Ananta Naga. From his navel rises a lotus stem ending in a closed lotus bud, while Lakshmi, his consort, sits near his legs.
The carving is believed to date to the 16th Buddhist century (around 958–1057 CE).
It was created according to the belief that water flowing across the body of the deity became sacred water, nourishing nearby communities and bringing fertility and abundance. It is considered the only known carving of Narayana Reclining in Thailand located directly within a natural forest stream.
When news of the discovery reached the Royal Household Bureau in 1991, Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn personally traveled to see it. The journey required trekking roughly 14 kilometers through the forest and took around five hours.
For most of the year the carving remains submerged beneath the water. It only becomes visible during the dry season between March and April when water levels fall. Even today, the site can only be reached on foot.
Most recently, on May 17, 2026, Lieutenant General Weerayut Raksilp, Commander of Thailand’s 2nd Army Region, visited the site together with officials from the Yod Dom Wildlife Sanctuary.
Local villagers continue to hold annual ceremonies honoring Narayana Reclining during the dry season when the carving reemerges from the water.

The only one in Thailand. A bas-relief carving of Narayana reclining on the cosmic serpent, submerged beneath the water for more than 1,000 years. Even Princess Maha Chakri Sirindhorn once visited to see it in person. facebook.com/share/p/14fDSt…

@pureguava10300 And so, this is the origins of the term, "Ma Wat" ?
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
English

“Wat Ma Phee” — literally “Ghost Dog Temple” — is the common name passed down through local folklore.
The temple lies within Kamphaeng Phet Historical Park, an area that in the past was covered by dense forest stretching across more than 1,600 rai. And wherever ancient ruins existed, treasure hunters inevitably followed. For more than a century, looters searched old temple crypts for hidden valuables.
Wat Ma Phee became one of their targets. The thick forest provided perfect cover from prying eyes, and treasure digging was usually carried out at night to avoid detection.
As with many abandoned ruins, stories of curses and supernatural events soon spread by word of mouth.
At this temple, people claimed the treasure hunters encountered ghostly dogs guarding the site. The animals were said to be vicious, appearing and disappearing without a trace.
The stories became so widespread that the ruins eventually became known simply as “Wat Ma Phee” — the Ghost Dog Temple.
