Despite the regulations on #HFSS dating back to 2018, fewer than 1 in 6 consumers have ever heard of ‘HFSS legislation’ and just 4 per cent of adults can correctly identify what “HFSS” means.

@IsabelO20183051 I agree labelling doesn't work and people can still buy confec or snack in aisles . The leg is aimed at reducing impulse sales of unhealthy foods at prominent places so people arent bombarded with it. Placing healthier foods in prominent areas has been shown to improve health

@DrSarahMuir People will buy them all the same. If you don’t understand nutrition with a wide internet library on it then a supermarket labelling will make zero difference.

Evidence that more support is needed to ensure #obesity #policy is appropriately implemented and enforced. #retail regulations are the only way to change #FoodSystems to properly support population health but that can only happen if shops comply!!

The legislation is complex and a central HFSS calculator, #smallbusiness support and resources for local authorities would help consistent implementation and enforcement. Independent evaluation of the legislation will understand intended and unintended consequences.
