@tombrughmans As you said, one always needs to understand the context before interpreting bibliometric statistics. Few, unfortunately, do

@tombrughmans Archaeology is bibliometrically challenged (reports on digs?) but issues such as grey literature faced in other areas too.

@tombrughmans yes standard raw citation data (Web Of Science etc) must be adjusted for large differences even between sciences.

@electricarchaeo My approach. Run topic model. Then words which appear frequently but evenly across many topics are stop words. Iterate.
