We were on holiday recently, and specifically chose our hotel on the basis that they could provide gluten-free food for our 9 year-old son, who has coeliac disease. The staff were very attentive, and all went well until one night when something went very wrong… 🧵

@DocNurseCherry @ashleyruba_phd I am a nurse academic and I love it. It can be a really hard space to be, but not always. Bring boundaries with you and use them. Academia is very good at tipping the work life balance without you noticing. Take what you want and need from it and give what you can. Enjoy the ride

@Laconic_doc 2/2 and it was the unique methodology that generated the interesting results. It would be fascinating to repeat the study with a different community.

@Laconic_doc 1/2 Cultural influences are massive - I run teach healthcare ethics and law internationally and run a BSc Nursing in Singapore. I think the taxonomy and Lie Arm work for communication generally, but I am in the only person who has sone an ethnography in this subject area.

A really important aspect of interacting for carers of people living with dementia... ...being emotionally intelligent about when to be honest, and when to use 'white lies' in this situation is not easy, but key! [full paper (open access): journals.sagepub.com/doi/full/10.11…]
