Last week in Canberra, stakeholders from across the pain sector were joined by politicians to mark chronic pain on the national agenda and calling for the expansion and scaling of primary care pain management programs across the country. We need your support to build on the momentum, ensuring our request reaches every policy maker to drive meaningful change. We encourage you to write to your local MP to help secure the funding and commitments needed to create a better future for all Australians impacted by chronic pain. #ChronicPain #Painchangers

CHRONIC PAIN IN RURAL AND REMOTE AUSTRALIA: UNABLE TO WORK AND LABELLED DRUG-SEEKERS The 2024 National Pain Survey of nearly 2600 people living with chronic pain has found that the experience of Australians living with chronic pain in rural and remote communities is significantly different from the experience of those living in metropolitan areas. People living with chronic pain often say that the pain “colours their world” – with 3.6 million people living with chronic pain, this invisible condition is colouring the world of many families. I just wanted to take a moment to extend my heartfelt thanks to each and every one of you who has reached out during what has been an incredibly challenging time for me. As some of you might know, I've been navigating the rough waters of a back injury. This journey has oscillated between the sharp peaks of 10/10 pain and the deep valleys of anxiety concerning my future abilities. It's been a road marked by a partial and, in all likelihood, premature return to work. Through it all, I've been doing my best to keep pushing forward, even though I'm acutely aware of not operating at my usual capacity. I'm still very much in the thick of it, feeling raw and underperforming, which has been a humbling experience. I've always been on the other side of the healthcare equation, and I must admit, being a patient – especially one dealing with chronic pain – is a role I never expected to find so challenging. Despite my background, I've realised I'm no expert when it comes to managing this new and personal health struggle. At the end of the day, though, I'm okay. And that's largely thanks to the unwavering support and kindness so many of you have shown me. Your messages, calls, and thoughts have been a beacon of hope and a reminder of the incredible community I'm fortunate enough to call my friends and family. Please forgive the imperfect ways I've been navigating this chapter of my life. I'm only human, after all. Your understanding and continued support mean the world to me. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart. 💙
