Our last summer in Bristol and treated to a wonderful hot air balloon ascent at @bristolballoon. The 4am wake up was worth it!

@paedsdr I was told that the prospective GMC approval to move CCT date only allowed me to accredit the time against competencies at my current training level. Because I did my PhD as ST3-4 I couldn't count the experience against subspecialty training so there wasn't much point.

Academic #medtwitter in the UK has anyone asked for clinical time in their PhD to be included towards their CCT date and if would you mind if I asked you some questions about it?

Clinical academia is already a tough road... Making it a lottery right at the start is only going to disincentive trainees and compound the ongoing challenge of recruitment and retention of clinical academics.

We fundamentally disagree with the decision by the UK Health bodies to move the Specialised Foundation Programme into the PIA system from 2025 and will fight for students by resisting this change in any way that we can. Read the full statement 👇bma.org.uk/news-and-opini…

An important article highlighting the current landscape for clinical academics
Michael Makris@ProfMakris

Intresting short article in @NatureMedicine discussing the decline in clinical academics in the UK and US. Another issue, not discussed, is the failure to recognise all the components of the job equally, clinical/research/teaching. The interests of Universities and the NHS are not the same and clinical academics suffer as a result. @StephenORahilly

@gushamilton @clifford0584 @RCollEM @EMTAcommittee Methodology!? I think it’s because we’ve been grouped together unlike physicians/surgeons listed by speciality/CCT. From a quick look there’s 21 GA, 8 OA, 7 CAMHS and 1 forensic post listed… Sadly no intellectual disability or medical psychotherapy ACFs. @KatherineChin18

Stealing these numbers (thanks) Good to see an expansion in recruitment for EM ACFs. Good that Oxford and Bristol are recruiting this year again. Hopefully all 9 posts go to #emergencymedicine and get filled. We need more academic trainees @RCollEM @EMTAcommittee

How do we grow the geris research workforce without more training spots? @GeriSoc #RADC Did a ctrl F of jobs (so may not be 100% accurate but you get the gist) and it looks like there’s 19 geris ACF posts across the UK. Much less than some others eg. 44 posts in psych! (2/n)
