It’s crazy to think about how many celebrities could pay off my med school loans without even blinking twice. So uh, hey out there… anybody feeling charitable?

@Will_Tanner_1 And not that it entirely matters but I am a woman, a minority, and a radiology resident that plans to work full time. It does exist especially with the size of loans most med students must take out nowadays.

@Will_Tanner_1 There are an increasing amount of medical school spots yearly with the opening of DO schools/locational branches of others. The real issue is the lack of expansion of residency positions, which is obviously decided by the government.

Medical schools 1) didn't expand their class sizes over the past four or five decades, and 2) simultaneously let in more women (who rarely practice full time) and minorities (typically DIEversity scams) than ever Meanwhile, Private Equity funds bought up many of the private practices, and turned what was a job for people who wanted to be their own boss into a lifetime employment thing, which is less likely to attract the right sort of people It is not at all surprising that there are now too few doctors

Don’t buy this for a minute. The MD shortage is manufactured by Congress. It exists because of corruption. The number of residency training spots is capped by Congress under the Balanced Budget Act of 1997. While medical schools have increased enrollment to address physician shortages, the number of residency slots—required for graduates to become licensed physicians—has not grown proportionally due to a lack of federal funding for graduate medical education via Medicare. This bottleneck disproportionately affects underserved areas, including inner cities and rural communities, where physician shortages are the worst. Let’s talk about it 🧵
