With the euphoria of my first @DDWMeeting fading, the science, the community, the networks, the vibe, the city, and the many memories not captured on pictures would stay✨ From @blackingastro #BOND & #Summit events, to the @AAFG_2021 #Dinner, to the @AASLDtweets #LFN Reception, and now my first grand Digestive Disease Week—what an enthralling 5-day experience. Had fun walking by aisles of brilliant research that never made the orals, yet still carried so much brilliance and heart. But nothing compared to sharing the stories behind my data, the uniqueness of my findings and the stark implications. And every “Can I take a picture of your poster?” made it all feel worth it. Grateful for the growth, the connections, and the moments that remind me why I love this path. 🩺📚 #ddw #firstddw #futureGI #medtwitter #gastroenterology #hepatology

Excited to share our latest publication: the first meta-analysis evaluating pentraxin-3 as a diagnostic biomarker for hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Key highlights: 🔹 Pentraxin-3 demonstrated diagnostic accuracy comparable to alpha-fetoprotein (AFP) 🔹 Combining pentraxin-3 with AFP significantly improved diagnostic sensitivity 🔹 The combined biomarker approach detected 93% of HCC cases These findings highlight pentraxin-3 as a promising complementary biomarker that may improve early HCC detection and strengthen current diagnostic strategies. Just wrapped up the @AmCollegeGastro Virtual Grand Rounds on the GI fellowship application process, moderated by Dr. @BilalMohammadMD. So grateful to the Program Directors and fellows who shared their invaluable advice. As PGY-1, and prospective applicant, these themes stuck with me as I carefully listened; • 𝐀𝐮𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐯𝐞 𝐚𝐥𝐥. Be genuine in your personal statement, emails, and interviews. Don’t just list accomplishments; tell your story, share what you’re passionate about and why you truly want to do GI&Hepatology. • 𝐒𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐬 𝐭𝐫𝐮𝐥𝐲 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫. They’re mostly used for pre-screening rather than ranking, and choosing not to signal can send the wrong message, although applications can still be reviewed if remarkably outstanding. Use them strategically to advocate for yourself. • 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐨𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐟𝐨𝐫 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟. Clearly articulate why you want to do GI. Don’t be shy or underestimate yourself. You are your best advocate. • 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭 𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐲. Begin preparing well in advance, especially when it comes to reaching out to letter writers. • 𝐂𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐬𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐫𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐥𝐞𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐰𝐫𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬. Select people who know you well and can speak to your extracurricular skills like leadership, etc. not just big names. Could be your clinic preceptor who knows and can write about the unique qualities you have. But there should be a fair mix of GI versus IM attendings. • 𝐂𝐫𝐚𝐟𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮𝐫 𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐲. Open with a strong hook and close with a memorable final paragraph, since reviewers often skim. • 𝐅𝐢𝐭 𝐦𝐚𝐭𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐬. Research programs carefully and apply to places where you’d genuinely be a good match. Have a fair mix of top-, mid-, and low-tier programs. • 𝐅𝐨𝐜𝐮𝐬 𝐨𝐧 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐲𝐨𝐮 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐥. Don’t waste energy on uncontrollable factors. Put your effort into GI electives, strong letters, and doing your best work. Ignore the attempts, low scores, gap years, many have matched with these. • 𝐈𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰 𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞. Look at the camera, not the screen (because on the other end, you would be looking down instead of to the eye of your interviewer). In fact, one PD didn’t know of this. She only realized during the meeting. Make sure you are not making the same mistake. Be authentic throughout the conversation. • 𝐅𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐨𝐰 𝐮𝐩 𝐚𝐟𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰𝐬. Reach out afterward, at minimum to the program director. Programs appreciate this, especially older faculty who strongly consider this during ranking and may perceive not receiving an email as disinterest. • 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬𝐞𝐭. Believe in yourself, stay committed, and remember that you only need one place to match. I hope this helps applicants who are about to apply and who would not have the time to review the meeting’s recording! @AmCollegeGastro @ACG_EBGI @blackingastro @AAFG_2021 @AASLDtweets

This #WorldLiverDay, we @TNLFProjects closed out our 7-say countdown campaign, bringing liver-health tips to Nigerian communities across Sub-Saharan Africa, especially those who can’t access preventive care in Nigeria! We ended with this same message, but through a variety of Nigerian languages which aligned with this year’s theme, Solid Habits, Strong Liver: eat well, stay active, limit alcohol, get checked. What do you think? All credit to our ever-passionate executives and volunteers. 💚 #WorldLiverDay2026 #aasld #SolidHabitsStrongLiver #LiverHealth #HealthEquity #SOLDA #NigerianLiverFoundation #LiverDisease

Few weeks ago, on the final day of our GI dedicated month, I had the privilege of presenting at the @OBHBrookdaleIM noon conference—a moment that genuinely moved me, not just intellectually, but professionally. I walked through Acute Liver Failure (ALF) secondary to Acetaminophen Toxicity, which is the leading cause of ALF in the United States and across the developed world. A few things that stayed with me long after the room cleared: 🔬 Early toxicity looks benign. Don't be fooled ⚗️ NAPQI accumulates silently → hepatic necrosis within 72–96 hrs 💊 Start NAC immediately. Don't wait for labs 📊 pH <7.30 = 95% mortality without transplant 🌍 Hep E & B dominate ALF globally. Context matters The questions from that room moved me more than any slide ever could. Blessed to train at @OBHBrookdaleIM and profoundly grateful to the distinguished @SeeFisch for unceasing encouragements. Thank you @SharanyaNemaka1 for all your mentorship. #Hepatology #ALF #MedTwitter #GITwitter #AcetaminophenToxicity

Feeling fulfilled after an immersive community awareness outreach on Colorectal Cancer today at the SDA church in Brownsville, Brooklyn, New York! Drs. @SharanyaNemaka1 and @ceomaliko1’s expertise on the subject helped make the engagement resoundingly impactful. We reached over 50 community members, with over a fifth of them signing up to get screened at @onebklynhealth. Their thoughtful questions reflected genuine curiosity and was a powerful reminder of the continued need for community campaigns like this, even beyond the month of March! Through support from the @onebklynhealth External Affairs office, the @OBHBrookdaleIM leadership, and the Gastroenterology department at OBH, we provided participants with comprehensive CRC educational materials, checked blood pressures, while addressing common myths—meeting the people right where they were. As Convener, I couldn’t be more fulfilled. Grateful for all the volunteers, who, remarkably are the best patients’ advocates I know. Today reminded us why early detection, screening and education remain indispensable to eliminating colorectal cancer. 💡 Let’s Screen. Detect. Prevent. #ColorectalCancerAwarenessMonth #ColorectalCancerAwareness #GetScreened #ScreeningSavesLives #EarlyDetectionSavesLives #FightCRC

One week ago, I arrived Las Vegas after fortunately securing one of the limited travel awards to attend the @AASLDtweets Emerging Topic Conference. I am still in awe of the top notch organization, the brilliant speakers and subject experts, including @ebtapper and @AlkhouriNaim, the quality of the sessions, and new connections established. As the @AASLDPresident, @saulkarpen noted, and has continued to resonate with me: 💉Only 2% of children ≥12 receive GLP-1 RAs 🩺 MASLD risk rises 4–5x among kids with parental obesity These are powerful reminders of the growing, intergenerational burden of liver disease, and how experiences like this, which foster collaboration, innovation, research, and education, remain central to advancing hepatology. Looking forward to maximizing the AASLD Programming at the @DDWMeeting in Chicago and in November, The Liver Meeting in Denver. Grateful for the learning and conversations, to @onebklynhealth and @OBHBrookdaleIM for the continued support and mentorship. #MASLD #MASH #Hepatology #AASLD #Hepatology #LiverDisease #DigitalHealth #CholestaticLiverDisease #PSC #PBC #ABGH #globalhealth #TNLF
