@InsiderGeo So are we expected to always accommodate other cultures? Other countries aren't ever expected to accommodate our culture?

People often don’t realize that you can’t talk to Asians the same way you talk to Europeans or Westerners. There’s a cultural expectation that historical context, respect, and subtlety are treated differently what might seem casual or humorous in the West is deeply offensive in Japan, In Japan, context, respect, and subtlety guide almost every interaction. Unlike in many Western countries, where directness is valued, Japanese communication often relies on reading between the lines.

Japanese PM Sanae Takaichi's reaction as Trump says "Who knows better about surprise than Japan? Why didn't you tell me about Pearl Habour?" Undoubtedly the worst American diplomatic gaffe in post-war US-Japan history.

This is a super bad idea. For every nightmare you hear about HOAs, when I look for a home, I ask the realtor to find me places with the strictest HOA they have seen. I got fined for letting my car tires touch my grass, and I paid the fine and sent in a thank you. because fining me for that keeps Cletus T. Peckerwood next door from parking his 1978 trans am with no wheels on blocks in his front yard. Which keeps my neighborhood from eventually having a check cashing store in it.
News4JAX@wjxt4

Last week, a Florida bill that would allow residents to eliminate their HOAs was unanimously approved by its fourth and final committee, meaning it is now slated to go before the full House for consideration on Thursday. news4jax.com/news/local/202…

@V_Lady2024 As an AC tech, I can forsee you replacing your unit withing the next 5 years. You are seriously restricting airflow, trapping dirt and dust inside the enclosure therefore guaranteeing it gets trapped in the coil, forcing your compressor to work harder which will make it fail.

Sardines contain arsenic, and if you've encountered this fact delivered with a grave expression by someone who clearly enjoyed delivering it, you will know how alarming it is designed to sound. Here is some helpful context. Rice, particularly brown rice, the rice on every clean eating meal plan, the rice that has been the foundation of "healthy" carb loading for thirty years, accumulates inorganic arsenic from paddy field irrigation water. Inorganic arsenic is the form that actually matters toxicologically. It is the form that doesn't just pass through. The European Food Safety Authority has reviewed this, set formal limits, and specifically flagged rice as a concern for children and high consumers. This is regulatory bodies taking it seriously, not fringe commentary. Apple juice: documented inorganic arsenic. Measured, studied, limits established. Drinking water: WHO threshold is 0.01mg per litre, and many public supplies operate close to this without anyone staging an intervention. Wheat: arsenic levels vary with soil composition, often meaningfully. The arsenic in sardines is almost entirely organic arsenic, specifically a compound called arsenobetaine that marine organisms accumulate naturally. Arsenobetaine is processed by your kidneys and excreted. It does not accumulate in tissues. It does not produce the toxicological effects of inorganic arsenic. Regulatory bodies have understood this distinction for decades, which is why fish is not on the restricted list and rice is. The person raising the sardine arsenic concern while eating a brown rice bowl is, nutritionally speaking, standing in a glass house with a substantial rock. The sardine contains complete protein, omega-3s, vitamin D, B12, selenium, and more calcium than a glass of milk. The arsenic in it is the least interesting thing about it.

NEW: Mom accused of sending her husband on an errand so she could kill her 3 kids before paralyzing herself by jumping out a window, appears in court. The attorney of Lindsay Clancy says she was prescribed as many as 12 medications by doctors. Her husband says she was so over medicated that she began hearing voices in her head. “Her husband actually went to the doctor the week before to ask for help and said you're turning her into a zombie,” defense attorney Kevin Reddington said. “It was just a brutal, brutal existence that they were living. Her parents were aware of this, they were trying to help out the husband as well.” The Massachusetts woman was charged with the murders of her three children: Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months. Clancy’s trial is set for July.

French take: only unrefined cuisine rely on dousing their foods with seasoning. If making your food good is based on seasoning, you have no cooking skills. Good cuisine rely on texture and the alliance of the flavours of the underlying ingredients. Your reliance on magic powder to give tastes to your cuisine is just a skill issue. A good carbonara? You only need a bit of salt and pepper. A good tartare steak? Same. A good purée mousseline? Same.

@AlexRoseGames @Roach_VDB @SandyofCthulhu Very funny I literally today heard of some other brit complaining about cadbury dairy milk. But yeah no ones saying regular hersheys is good chocolate, its just fine. If you ever happen upon a Hersheys symphony bar, thats pretty decent (for mass produced chocolate)

When I find root beer in Europe, the Europeans always gag and posture, saying that it "tastes like medicine". So I asked which medicine, and it was "black draught syrup" so I tried it and it did taste a teensy bit like root beer so I guess I understand. However, when I manage to foist Dr Pepper upon Europeans, they almost always enjoy it just fine. I had one French guy pretend to gag, and then when I braced him he admitted he liked it but didn't want to admit it in front of the other French guys in the room.

@OldManHop @tulum_a @Roach_VDB @SandyofCthulhu I've heard people on the internet say this but I've given it to several Germans and they're all just like "yep thats chocolate." Even after explaining the vomit thing none have had any issue with it.

@tulum_a @Dragonoth @Roach_VDB @SandyofCthulhu Hershey's has a distinct "tang" to it because of a compound produced during a unique fermentation process that only they do, and many people outside the US say it tastes of vomit. Unfortunately, this has led many to think that all American chocolate is bad, which isn't the case.

While I would definitely not recommend watching the unfiltered Hamas GoPro footage of October 7th to everyone, if you are capable of it and it will not have adverse effects on you, I recommend everyone watch it. You will not hear a single one of them say 'free Palestine', mention the word 'Israel' or 'Jerusalem'. They use the exact same language ISIS, Al Quaeda, and other violent Islamist organizations terrorists use when going on killing sprees. This had nothing to do with land or "the occupation".

@PeakingTruth @pureMetatron That's not how language works. Language is determined by the way people use it. People say America to refer to North/South America, so it is correct. People do not say Dakota to refer to North/South Dakota, so it is incorrect. Language is under no obligation to be consistent.

Professional language teacher here. It’s perfectly fine to shorten United States of America as America. It’s not incorrect. It’s an informal shorthand for the country, very commonly used in the English speaking world. While it’s true that it’s also possible to refer to the whole continent as America, when you say Americans you mean people from the USA don’t you? Also It’s “This is THE USA.” Not “this is USA”, if we are gonna be pedantic. So your chosen picture is wrong. MAGA is right and you’re dumb.

How I shop for ground beef in the USA on a budget 🥩 1. Go to a grocery store with an in-house butcher (like H‑E‑B) 2. Find the cheapest brisket 3. Ask the butcher—politely—to grind it and keep all the fat 4. If you’re nice, they’ll pack it in separate containers so it’s easy to freeze 5. Say “thank you” 6. Result: plenty of ground beef for less. 17 lbs of ground beef for 67$ 😘
