Just caught up on the Riot Games Vanguard drama. Yall cannot be serious right? The hate train against Riot's anticheat is obviously an attempt led by the cheaters to fool the masses into believing that Riot is 'bricking' consumer PCs. Most blatant form of public manipulation I've seen yet. They try to go the highground 'morality' route of how 'Riot shouldn't have control over consumer hardware' but that's not even remotely close to what Vanguard is and can do. It's disgusting how many people's falling for this false narrative. Do yall have brains? Wake tf up you are literally getting manipulated by the cheaters into putting public pressure on Riot so that they can have an easier time cheating in competitive games. For all their faults, the one good thing about Riot is that they have managed to keep the competitive integrities of their games up at a level far above industry standards, and they've managed to achieve that in the least obstructive way possible. Can anyone name a single instance where their non-cheating device stopped working after playing a Riot game? You can't. Because that's literally never happened. Stop falling for the fake news, retards.

Vanguard does a lot of things that is ethically incorrect in my opinion. One of them being scanning your whole RAM for malicious signatures that could then be abused to be banning through UTF-16 messages on discord. But bricking PC is not one of them. The psyop has to stop.

Let’s walk through how that courtroom drama plays out: Cheater: "Your Honor, Riot bricked my $6,000 PC!" Riot: "Actually, we just updated Vanguard to enforce standard Windows IOMMU security protocols. If they unplug the illegal hardware cheat device from their motherboard, the PC boots perfectly fine." Judge: "Wait, so your computer works, but your specialized cheating hardware doesn't?" Cheater: "Yes! It’s property damage!" Judge: [Bangs gavel so hard it breaks] "Case dismissed. Pay Riot's legal fees." You cannot sue a company because their security system successfully detected your exploit. Riot didn't destroy anything; they just rendered a cheating device useless for cheating. If you spent thousands of dollars on a DMA card just to click on heads in Valorant, your only legal recourse is to sue your parents for giving birth to someone so stupid.

Game: Valorant AC: Vanguard (VGK) Today’s Vanguard anti-cheat update blocked the majority of DMA firmwares using SATA/NVMe. VGK suddenly triggered an IOMMU restart warning in-game, after which the DMA firmware becomes completely unusable, even without the game running or after uninstalling Vanguard. Only fix is a full OS reinstall. It’s using IOMMU to create read blocks, which permanently breaks the majority of almost all SATA/NVMe firmwares once triggered. Even the advanced H2-board got affected. Confirmed Firmware Block wave by @ItsGamerDoc

Does Vanguard physically damage hardware? No. Does this impact hardware or software in any ways unrelated to Riot’s games? No. The IOMMU security protection does not impact hardware, and would only impact the ability of players using DMA cheat devices to play our games. Are normal players affected? Players not using DMA cheat hardware are unaffected. Why target DMA cheats? DMA-based cheats are among the most sophisticated forms of cheating because they attempt to bypass traditional software detection by accessing memory directly through external hardware. I’m affected by this. How do I fix it? To continue cheating in other titles with this device, you may simply disable IOMMU in BIOS in the same place that you enabled it. Of course, you still won’t be able to play our games with these cheat devices enabled. Why did Riot joke about “bricking” PCs? We didn’t. The “paperweight” comment was about VALORANT cheat devices that no longer work in VALORANT. No hardware is being damaged and no other functionalities are impacted.

Riot Vanguard’ın son güncellemesi, DMA kullanan birçok SATA/NVMe hile cihazlarını kullanılamaz hale getirdi. 🔸 IOMMU uyarısından sonra cihaz tamamen kilitleniyor ve sorunun tek çözümü işletim sistemine format atmak.

I think PC game anti cheat solutions are becoming too invasive.

Tech literacy is plummeting
