@MHeise10 Maybe. I thought the reported ask he had of Anaheim at 15M would be roughly what you expect for 80-90 point Cs in a few years. 18 I think you're looking at guys who are perennial 100-plus threats even with the cap going up. Will be interesting to see if he can be that.

Comparing percentage of salary cap, Leo Carlsson's $18m per season in Anaheim is the equivalent to: • $9.81m when Crosby signed 5y x $8.7m in 2008 • $9.81m when Ovechkin signed 13y x $9.5m in 2008 • $13.77m when McDavid signed 8y x $12.5m in 2018 • $14.11m when Matthews signed 5y x $11.6m in 2019 It's a ton of cheddar but it's not a franchise ruining pay check by any means.

@MHeise10 Which is fine, there are plenty of examples where paying for previous performances doesn't work out.
It's a real big gamble to give him a contract where just meeting expectations requires him to be a generational talent.

It's the acting like he should get the same cap% as guys like Crosby and Ovechkin that kills me.

Those are impressive until you look at:
Sid: 102 points (39goals 63 🍎)
Ovi: 106 pt rookie season (52 goals and 54 🍎)
Carlson had Matthews Rookie numbers in his d+2 season. 10-11m is a fair value deal imo

@MNM348816 If their compensation for not matching was Demidov on his 8-year deal instead of four (probably mid-late firsts) I bet they'd take it.
This deal requires him to basically be Nathan MacKinnon. Maybe he can, but big time gamble.

@DrakeMT I would say given the position, intangibles, all situations play, etc rven if Carlsson can only play at a 15m~ level during most the deal you take that over demidov and his deal no problem. No better way to use money than on stars

@MNM348816 Well he's a C, and a very good one, so yes he's gonna get more. Acting like any team would prefer an obvious overpay over a reasonable deal is the funny part here.
It is an overpay. Living up to that deal is going to be a lot harder for him than it is for Demi.

Carlsson is a safe top tier C bet for the next decade at minimum, hes legit

@Andy_n_di @MNM348816 Bingo. Now I will say for the Flyers, they did what they had to do. Unlike Bergevin lobbing a softball offer sheet at Aho that was far too easy to match. They actually made it a real tough decision.

@MNM348816 @DrakeMT Everyone knows that 18M is overpaid for a Carlsson. It just basically the price to steal a player or screw up the ducks. He is a great player, but the contract is over his value.

Ask yourself one question: should any team want to pay a guy who has yet to hit 70 points the highest AAV in the league? No.
Can he live up to that contract? Sure, absolutely. But there's a better chance he doesn't.

Carlsson is better in every facet of the game, plays all situations, a center, and takes on the toughest matchups with great on ice underlyings
