I don’t care if you believe you are a real cat. If I’m bored, I might play along. Most likely I’ll just ignore you. But do not piss on my carpet and say it’s your litter box.

Healthcare costs have been rising 6-8% a year for 45 years. It's eating up every family, every business, and the entire state budget. Single payer is the only way out.

@JamesSurowiecki The fact that they continue to give themselves raises even during difficult times, they vote against releasing their list of House hush money payoffs, and there are no term limits are just a few examples that our “representatives” don’t really represent our will 365 days a year.

@JamesSurowiecki The US is in no way shape or form a democracy. In a pure democracy, we wouldn’t have representatives. We would vote on each issue. Why is it OK for 2 people to represent a State, and 435 people to speak for 350 million but the EC is the example of “not pure democracy”.

The replies to this are so funny: 4000 people making the exact same bad arguments I've heard my whole life, as if they've somehow never been made before. I know the arguments for the EC - that's why I said there are no good ones. The US has only one office that's elected by American voters as a whole. The fact that we have a system that in that one race allows a minority of voters to dictate to the majority and decide who gets the office is ridiculous and stupidly anti-democratic. We're always going to have it, but that's a bad thing.

If the bottom 50% of Americans only pay 2% of all taxes, why don’t we just ask the rich to pay 2% more so half of America can be completely tax free? To the rich, it might mean one less private jet or yacht. To the bottom 50%, it might mean not having to choose between rent, food, utilities, or healthcare.

@JamesSurowiecki Best solution with current EC situation would be every state divides their EC votes based on state results instead of winner take all. Instantly puts all states in play and makes Presidential race same as US house races where suddenly every district matters.

There's no good civic argument for the electoral college. It was arguably necessary to ensure the ratification of the Constitution, but it's an anti-democratic device that gives some American citizens far more voting power than others, based purely on where they live.

@JamesSurowiecki Since it was decided to form the government as it stands, the argument would be there is a system in place to change the electoral college if views changed on the matter.Have at it. One amendment has already come and gone. We’re the United States, not the United People

@raptorsbane @mcsquared34 It’s a workaround. States can decide how to cast their electoral votes. Constitution doesn’t need change This will blow up, if it ever did pass, the first time one of these states significantly voted for one candidate and cast their votes for the other based on national votes.

Abolish the electoral college. America is not a democracy it’s a dictatorship of capital. The backward United States needs to join the rest of the civilized world with the popular vote and ranked choices.

@kathleenmadigan Nope. Get a refund. You learned wrong. I Knew in 2nd grade that conditions were required for Pope speaking infallibly. If he said vanilla ice cream was best, it’s an opinion and he’s entitled to them as any man. Same for his religious beliefs.

4 women have now accused Swalwell of misconduct, and Democrats have been quick to condemn him. 2 dozen women have accused Donald Trump, one convincing a jury to find him liable for it, and only the Democrats have condemned him. Anyone else see the problem?

@DraughtJane @iamaherr @DemzDeliver Had bush continued to increase the surplus the debt would have continued falling. Instead he did the exact thing every modern Republican does and gave a massive tax break to billionaires and explode the deficit.

@iamaherr @MiMiLooLooTx @DemzDeliver The debt increased under Clinton. He had a lot of projected surpluses. He had plans based on projections that he didn’t meet in his own time in office that were still passed on to Bush. They all suck and acting like they don’t is why we’re where we’re at.

@MiMiLooLooTx @DemzDeliver You're innumerate, aren't you? The 2 are directly related. You can see where Clinton's budgets changed deficit to surplus in 2000. The downward trend is tiny, but it was the last time there was any decrease at all.

@DemzDeliver Every President since Reagan has increased the Debt. Raising or lowering the deficit for a time has zero to do with balancing the budget. Usually the last President increases it more than the previous one and party doesn’t matter.
