My book comes out in 10 days from Penguin, and I keep thinking about how, if I hadn’t spent three years on submission with projects that almost made it but never did sell, I wouldn’t have written this very book out of spite.

@Danaiwrites Legitimately my own turning point was when, after years of querying I just wrote the thing I wanted regardless of whether it was a good idea. That choice launched me down the path that got me my agent and made my dream come true. I debuted with Penguin a month ago Tuesday 😊

As someone who just had his first book launch party after more than a decade of work, I promise this is true. I got to sign books for little kids excited about my characters. For parents excited to read with their kids. It was a dream come true.
