The central theme of this genre is cosmic indifference and protagonists who don’t have agency to change the course of the narrative and most of the time the characters can’t even fathom what’s happening, the horror is beyond comprehension. That’s why the games that dabble in cosmic horror tropes turn them into story decoration. Action games with full player agency that have mutated enemies to check the body-horror checkbox and maybe a couple of tentacles here and there. Games like dead space, forgive me father, darkest dungeon and so on. Bloodborne is one of the few games that takes lovecraftian themes seriously and injects them into the story. And don’t you know it, it’s still an adrenaline fueled action RPG where you fight werewolves 60% of the time. Even in this case cosmic horror stays in the background, delivered through nebulous lore and item descriptions (with occasional alien encounters).

At my white collar job I would say 70% of the white women are fat or really fat (the other ethnicities… don’t even get me started). I can think of a couple of gals who are thin but the ratio is ridiculous. My anecdotal observations (from workplaces and social events) align closely with data on the prevalence of obesity. Around 66% of white women are overweight, and from that group, 40% are obese. That leaves 35% of white women… Do you think that 35% is skinny? Things are not pretty out there.

@Dreaming_Jester @TFMonkey2 @HoneyBadgerBite I can’t go into too much detail but I can tell you that multiple times it took the form of swatting wherein a false report of me being armed and dangerous to the police was made in the hopes they’d be trigger happy and I’d be surprised & taken out in the process.

@kenzietuff The flip side of this is that a lot of legal immigrants come from such hellholes that they actually don’t have anywhere to go back to, they left what can be considered post-apocalyptic wastelands. They know it and their host societies become the only “home” they have.

@TFMonkey2 @HoneyBadgerBite My mom tried to have me killed (multiple times) and had me falsely imprisoned 3 times as a teenager. Then I turned 18, she lost her power over me as a parent, acted like nothing happened & demanded I take care of her & my father. Feels for you bro.

@JREHaliburt @escapefrommelos The bleakest part is the simmering resentment they develop for the men they choose to settle with. The treatment these men endure is brutal, they get punished because some other guy, long ago gave her a flood of oxytocin and overloaded her spinal cord with electricity.

Because they suspected I was drinking alcohol at 20 years old. They did some illegal shit to arrest me. I was walked into a plea deal even though both of my breathalyzer tests showed 0.00. Both at the scene, (btw in the hotel I worked at a couple hours after I got there, not drunk at all. Not roadside or in the context of driving but they said they charged me with DUI because I admitted to driving to work two hours earlier. I didn’t get a DUI in the end because I took a “plea and abeyance”) and in the police station, the bigger one that sits on a counter. Since I didnt know my rights the entire situation and was realizing how messsd up the entire process was, I started learning my rights. Baby stuff, but I got ACLU fliers that said what to do if you were pulled over and went door to door handing them out ON A MILITARY BASE and started posting on Facebook all the time non stop about police brutality. It got to the point the cops were always getting called on me, cops said weird shit to me in front of my dad at the gate into the base that made it seem like I knew them when I didn’t know those individual cops, they wanted me to know they knew who I was, and by the last thing I was in legal trouble for, cussing at one of those gate cops (I was in the right and if I knew my rights even better I am sure I could have won that in court even though it’s federal and harder) but by the last legal case I was told by the JAG prosecutor that if I got in trouble one more time I’d be kicked off the base where my job was and where my parents and younger siblings lived and not allowed back on ever. Luckily now I have no reason to ever go back there 🥳🥳🥳🥳 also luckily the experience is why I am a libertarian today.

When I lived in the middle of nowhere on a tiny military base called Dugway Proving Ground and the cops started targeting me and being crazy and I had no friends and everyone was trashy and worked for the government, a federal judge sent me to anger management class for cussing out a gate cop. And the anger management guy was asking me about my problems and I said I live in a tiny military base and the cops target me and I have no friends and everyone is crazy and trashy and I’m reacting totally normally to this. I said I was being forced to stay there with my stupid plea deal but I was saving up to live to Texas. And he was like “no no wherever you go, there you are! You have mental problems!” And I was just like no ✨ and didn’t listen to him. Moved to Texas and all those “anger problems” were gone. Sure I’ve been angry plenty since then but I don’t have “problems” for being angry about maddening things.

@nonZeero @DanielMKishi Same reason why the Industrial Revolution didn’t happen until after slavery was abolished. People love the cheap labor and don’t want to invest a lot of capital in automation.

The New York Times recently published a column about a dairy farmer who deployed robots after immigration authorities arrested one of his workers. The farm now produces three times more milk per worker, while employees earn more, work shorter hours, and do less grueling work.

In Wisconsin, undocumented immigrants perform roughly 70% of the labor on the state's dairy farms. At the O'Harrow farm, the Republican family owners worry that the immigration crackdown will hurt their workers and their business. @stavernise nytimes.com/2026/03/27/us/…

Infrastructure? Have you not seen the billions upon billions of dollars of taxes wasted in the most ridiculous scams imaginable? The Somalian “learing” centers? The Medicare fraud? Feeding our future? What infrastructure? It’s all cold theft all the way down. Sure, let me pay for the street in front of my house, the sidewalk and the lights, that’s cheap compared to the raping that’s going on. I would love to pay directly for these things, using the money I earn for the work I do. I already pay for my electricity, my water, gas, internet, phone, why wouldn’t I pay for other things I use? It’s that supposed to be a gotcha? Pretty lame to be honest. So yes, thieves deserve countermeasures (the ones expressed by the post are tame compared to the ones that should be deployed against them)

@Dreaming_Jester @Liberty_Xtreme Ah. So Taxes are theft? So, then. How would you like to pay for infrastructure? You know that road outside of your house that breaks down? Sidewalks? Lights? Fire Departments? Would you rather pay for that yourself, out of pocket? It can be very expensive, you know.

I know you know the answer to this question, yet you ask it as a rhetorical tool. Well Seth, those people steal from other people by collecting taxes or aiding in the collection process. “Taxes” is the money you earn that the government steals from you, using the threat of force, which escalates up until lethal force, if required. Can’t be any clearer.

It’s incredibly simple to understand and your example is terrible. People who work for the IRS make a living stealing from other people, which means these countermeasures are commendable (and pretty civil considering the actual damage they cause civilization every day) On the other hand, a McDonald’s worker is adding value to society and helping people interested in having a meal. This person doesn’t deserve to be attacked or bullied. I hope you’re able to process the difference.

@Liberty_Xtreme I've never understood the joy people get in bullying others like this. It's like walking up to the guy at the cash register at McDonald's and spitting in his face and acting as if you just spit in the face of McDonald's CEO. You're harming people like yourself, not the problem.

It's funny how in the 90s white collar crime was super complex and deep. Enron, Bernie Madoff defrauding people with complex webs of lies for decades, etc. In our era it's just people committing crimes and being like lol what are you gonna do arrest me

Stephen King in his nonfiction book Danse Macabre (1981) said he was the literary equivalent to a Big Mac and Fries. By that he meant his stories had mass appeal but were still satisfying, his output had flavor. He might not produce gourmet literary cuisine but he’s able to provide entertaining well-crafted stories. That was 45 years ago and the comparison begs the question, are Big Macs and fries still flavorful and widely appealing? When I hear people talking about fast food most of the time I see them calling it complete garbage. People say McDonald’s, Burger King and other classic fast food restaurants are disgusting and the food almost inedible. If you were to make the same comparison today, you’d be in essence saying King’s output is trash. America has deteriorated so much in the last 30 years that even our analogies have decayed. The quality descriptors themselves are succumbing to entropy. Fast food today might as well be cattle food for a lot of people, and no one would like to compare his work to cattle food.

There’s another factor at play, women are only having one, maybe two kids. They become hyperneurotic because they don’t have enough kids to keep them mentally occupied. Women with 4 or 6 kids are on mom mode 24/7 for years, they don’t have time to be in MKUltra victim mode, they’re just too busy.

I believe the rise of the neurotic mother, though it has always existed to some extent, has been pushed forward by fatherless homes + multiculturalism. It’s the only way women can seemingly try to protect their children and they cling to forbidden knowledge and health crazes.

I'm convinced a major reason I struggle to model the American mind... is simply that circumcision isn't common in Canada. There's this uncanny valley talking to a wide percentage of American men that they just don't feel or exhibit certain human instincts.
