@ArcaVorago @ocochardlabbe The last I heard, Dragonfly is x86_64 only, and doesn't have support for arm64, which would exclude low power solutions like the Bluefield-3 I mentioned in my talk. I also don't think they support async sendfile, ext-pgs mbufs, or kTLS. All of which are critical for efficiency.

@ocochardlabbe @DrewGallatin As a high compute server and DC builder I love Netflix's breakdowns, as they always seem to have novel insights into IOPS etc. Great stuff. I've thought for a while if I were starting a netflix competitor or ISP I might be running Dragonfly instead of Free though.

@AmericanAir So glad I made executive plat where upgrades clear 100 hours before departure. Except they don’t. 100 hours ago there were 7 open seats in first. Now I’m 2 on the list for 1 seat Remind me why i should be loyal if you don’t do upgrades like you advertise?

@brikis98 Garmin. I have a Fenix 6, and the battery life is astounding. Better battery life on newer versions with solar charging. The fitness tracking is excellent. The areas where it needs work are sleep tracking (way worse than my old Android Wear). Notifications are a mess on iOS.

I need a recommendation for a fitness tracker: - Heart rate monitoring - Heart rate zone training - Sleep tracking - GPS to track running distance/pace/etc. - Long battery life (> 1 day) - Swim proof - Scratch proof Apple Watch? Garmin? Fitbit? Whoop?

Working with FreeBSD people at @netflix is always fun. "Can you throw 100 Gbps of live customer traffic at this patch and tell me if it improves performance?" They provide an amazing QA service to the FreeBSD community.

@lproven @cperciva SYSINIT() is a macro which causes a kernel initialization function to be called at a certain point in boot. See #L88" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">github.com/freebsd/freebs… for a list of those points. FreeBSD's man page at man.freebsd.org/cgi/man.cgi?qu… provides a much better description than I can provide in a tweet.

@cperciva Trying to Google the unfamiliar keywords in this tweet leads to a lot of rabbitholes. What is a SYSINIT? When does this happen – when the kernel is compiled, or installed, or booted, or while running? Firecracker as in the "microVM"? Who uses that, where? Useful elsewhere?

@brettpeirce @itskyleconner @marc_galles Yes, I watch Kyle's YT videos :) One of the reasons I've still got my old Model X instead of a Taycan or something. But with everybody switching to NACS, I want to have as many options as possible...

As we correctly transition to NACS in America for wide use, it’ll be a bumpy road. One example: Older Teslas won’t be able to charge on public NACS stations since they’ll use CCS communications These cars will require the CCS charge port ECU upgrade to “speak ISO15118” Imagine how confusing that’s going to be for some drivers! The plug will interface properly, but charging won’t be possible. If you want more insights like this one, check out the video @OutofSpecDave and I did on this topic youtu.be/LFHtg5TGooo

@DrewGallatin @itskyleconner @marc_galles 3rd party NACS stations maybe, and I'm not speaking with authority that Tesla will continue to support older non-CCS NACS vehicles, but I think it would be mostly trivial. Plug in, try to talk CCS. No response? Talk Supercharger Classic™. No big deal, I don't think?

@brettpeirce @itskyleconner @marc_galles I thought that the ECU in the older Teslas (like mine) cannot speak CCS, and that even though the connector at 3rd party NACS charging stations will be NACS, they will speak the CCS protocol. So to me it seems like we need to updated ECU for both 3rd-party NACS and adaptor CCS.

@OGMarsLife Repair anxiety. I *HATE* that its nearly impossible to talk to a human at your local service center. Checking on the repair status of your car is painful compared to independent shops, and even old fashioned dealerships.

@b0rk Thanks so much for jvns.ca/blog/2017/03/1… I'm normally a FreeBSD person, and your ftrace tutorial helped me figure out an issue I'm having on Linux with kexec that I would have used Dtrace to figure out on FreeBSD..

@gyptazy @hexausted @dgoodkin @nixcraft Sadly we don’t use ZFS to serve data. ZFS doesn’t integrate with the vfs page cache, so data sent from ZFS via sendfile() incurs an extra memory copy from ARC into the page cache. This makes it less efficient for content than UFS. But we love ZFS and use it for our root fs.

@greentheonly The random FSD lane changes drive me nuts also. I'm like "no, stay in the right lane when you're not passing!", and keep moving it back until I get frustrated and drive manually.

you are now also going to beep at me every time I press accelerator to actually close the following distance to the safe range, seriously? And what's up with constant attempts at random lane changes that ignore the "minimal changes" setting even? And then the randm braking galore

So I am in a middle of a roadtrip and I am taken aback by the new FSDBeta on highways. Who approved this garbage to go into prod? It's totally unusable! I know you cannot have decent reaction in the system as is so had to increase the follow distance and decrease max speed, but

@notshenetworks $2k roughly 2 years ago. I replaced it proactively when I moved, since it was past its end of life. This was a large (forgot the exact capacity) electric water heater, which is apparently needed when you have a large Jacuzzi tub..

@notshenetworks You can appeal on most jurisdictions. Mine was increased the month after I bought it to $75k more than I paid 30 days prior. I appealed and it was reduced to my purchase price. Process was easy and quick.
