When you fight the Russian regime, you don't recognize it and you understand what kind of a fight you are in, it would be surprising and even irresponsible, not to be ready for a whole series of discomforts. Even against this background, I want to tell you, completely honestly, without embellishment: to me, it's beyond ridiculous that Bidzina Ivanishvili thinks he has punished me. Someone wiped off their sweat, thinking they solved one more issue, having punished me. Friends! It would be a punishment for me had I become afraid of Russians and gotten used to them, not preparing for the fight against them. I really laugh at those who think prison is a punishment or a slowdown in the fight. On the contrary, it gives me a kind of pleasure that a so-called judge or any other Georgian Dream begs me to recognize them. No matter what method they use, all of them are doomed. I laugh at their hustle. I have precisely understood their weak points and that's the spots where they will calmly and quietly receive blows from us. I would like to touch on one more issue. Just once. I and my family are responsible for my four children. God forbid that I ever leave them upon the Georgian Dream's mercy. My four children do not need the mercy of a Russian. They know very well why they are going through this ordeal, much better than the Georgian Dream know! I would also like to thank the Opposition Alliance for its very precise emphasis, that there will be no bargaining with prisoners! And my gratitude to everyone: journalists, activists and all citizens for their support. My gratitude to the prison administration, everyone without exception. I have no difficulties here and I lack nothing. Let's continue the fight, I from here, and you from there. Until the end! Rustavi Women's Prison 24/03/2026

JUST IN: "Elene Khoshtaria is in jail not because of a marker inscription but because of the revolution scenario that she was part of. The state must react," — Georgian Dream MP Gia Volski doubles down on terror against Elene Khoshtaria and the Georgian opposition. Today, Khoshtaria, a mother of 4, was sentenced to 1.5 years.

IMPORTANT: Georgian Dream issue a damning verdict against democratic leader Elene Khoshtaria @Helenkhosh before [their own] court announces a sentence. And by doing so, they are close to equating an anti-Georgian Dream graffiti with organizing a revolution. Today, the regime court suddenly decided to extend her proceedings into March and delay the unlawful verdict. Her crime? Writing “Russian Dream” on a Georgian Dream local election banner in September 2025, with a removable marker, and in solidarity with a female student who had been arrested over the same act. The “crime” implies 1 to 5 years in prison. GD MP Irakli Kadagishvili said: “It’s not like she just randomly made the graffiti and was arrested over it. She’s the organizer of the entire revolutionary and anti-state actions. And this act was one of her political statements.” GD Speaker of the Parliament Shalva Papuashvili called the graffiti a "dangerous" "politically motivated crime," which Khoshtaria committed "consciously," and that, precisely as a mother of 4, she must be familiar with what responsibility over her actions means. Full comment by Papuashvili, responding to a journalist's question: "How long will Elene Khoshtaria, a mother of four children, who was arrested for writing on a banner, have to stay in prison?" "Such politically motivated crimes are dangerous, among other things, because they do not have a clear political motivation. This is not just hooliganism, but a politically motivated crime. Accordingly, in all countries there is a strict approach to such crimes. Being a mother of 4 children also means that she is an adult who probably understands the responsibility for raising her children. Accordingly, she understands the responsibility for herself. She [Khoshtaria] knew what she was doing, what responsibility this would entail, she did it, and now she must take responsibility for herself. If an adult has the courage to break the law, she must also have the courage to answer for this violation." Papuashvili is the top one in the photos.

Reacting to the unlawful sentence against Elene Khoshtaria, Georgia’s Opposition Alliance reiterates there will be no prisoner trade with the regime and that the only solution is to dismantle the regime / force them into a collapse, which they deem inevitable. Full comment by Giga Lemonjava, Executive Secretary of @DroaParty: “We all know very well that in reality there’s no such a thing as a writing marker as the actual basis for political persecution against Elene. Elene was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months for not recognizing [the regime], not cooperating, resisting, doing everything to dismantle the evil Russian regime. And, of course, she will continue to do so. However, this is also a sort of a signal, a threat to all of us who are out [of prison]. Our response to this is the following, something that Elene would say if she were in our place and if any of us were in prison: there will be no prisoner trade; we envision victory against Ivanishvili's regime through its dismantling/collapse, and this moment will definitely come. Ivanishvili will not be able to stop the fight for freedom, justice, and the true European future of this country with prison, neither fear of prison, nor political retribution.” Elene Khoshtaria, the leader of Droa and one of the leaders of the Coalition for Change @CoalitionGEO, was sentenced to 1 year and 6 months in prison for "damaging" Kakha Kaladze's election banner. The verdict was announced by Tbilisi City Court Judge Giorgi Arevadze on March 24. Elene Khoshtaria, mother of 4, made the inscription "Russian Dream" on the Georgian Dream election banner with a removable marker. The Prosecution charged her with "intentional damage to someone else's property" and causing damage in the amount of 570 GEL, which is about EUR 180. @Helenkhosh

We condemn the 1.5-year sentence for @DroaParty leader @Helenkhosh, which is wholly unproportionate for her crime of exercising freedom of expression and seeking a prosperous pro-EU future for Georgia. We call for her immediate release and all politically motivated charges against her and fellow democratic opposition leaders and activists to be dropped, in addition to further targeted sanctions imposed. Georgians, you are not alone!

Elene Khoshtaria is a woman targeted and jailed for her pro-European politics in Georgia Her case represents a grave escalation of political repression in Georgia. For the first time in the country’s independent history, a female opposition party leader has been imprisoned on criminal charges clearly aimed at silencing political dissent. @Helenkhosh, one of Georgia’s most prominent pro-European political leaders, is currently imprisoned on politically motivated charges. She was arrested on September 15, 2025. She is a woman, a mother of four children, three of whom are under 18, and serves as Chair of the pro-Western political party @DroaParty, as well as a leading figure in the Coalition for Change @CoalitionGEO. 1/

A major breakthrough has occurred. And this breakthrough was brought about by the persistence of the people, the work of the political spectrum and NGOs. The Moscow Mechanism is creating an absolutely new reality. Everyone will gradually feel this. More specifically: 1. The "Georgian Dream" was recognized as illegitimate and indicted internationally. It is not about recognition or non-recognition; the "Georgian Dream" found itself beyond of politics, next to the criminals. The place for such people is in prisons, including at the ICC. 2. The Georgian people were given specific and very many instruments to hold the regime accountable. 3. The balance of power between us and the Russian Dream has changed. We have been given the weapon of just force against the oppressor! Now the main responsibility lies with the Opposition Alliance to optimally use all these levers to bring about change. 👇🏻 Joint statement by the UK and 23 other states on the OSCE Moscow Mechanism findings in Georgia. The statement implies readiness to consider recommended measures, which even includes referral to the International Criminal Court, in case Georgian authorities fail to address key recommendations — essentially reversing the democratic backsliding. "The Moscow Mechanism exists to support participating States in upholding their shared commitments in the human dimension. We, as invoking States, stand ready to support meaningful follow‑up, including through continued discussion in the Permanent Council and engagement with Georgian authorities and civil society as well as by seriously considering the Report’s recommendations to the OSCE Participating States and to the International Community." gov.uk/government/spe…

JUST IN: the OSCE fact-finding mission (Moscow Mechanism) report on Georgia is to be published today. A brief summary according to @GeorgeBurj, one of the most reputable people to interpret the document: According to the OSCE report, the situation in Georgia is so grave that all possible international mechanisms concerned with human rights should be activated. This includes: 1. Referring to the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Hague to initiate an investigation; 2. Interstate application by states to the European Court of Human Rights; 3. Interstate dispute proceedings in the UN Torture Tribunal or the UN Court of Justice; 4. Universal jurisdiction over individual violators; 5. Targeted sanctions to hold individuals accountable. And other mechanisms! 📷 Giorgi Burjanadze

On behalf of @DroaParty and our leader @Helenkhosh, I would like to express our deepest gratitude to @RJukneviciene! This evening, the @Europarl_EN held debates on the motion for a resolution: “On the case of Elene Khoshtaria and political prisoners under the Georgian Dream regime” Rasa Juknevičienė opened the debates by reassuring Georgians and reading the letter of gratitude from Elene, written from her prison cell. “There ar those who say the Georgia is lost. It is not true. Yes, the Georgian people are experiencing one of the most difficult periods in their history. However, Georgia is certainly not lost. This is evidenced by the letter I received yesterday from Elene Khoshtaria. ‘Dear Rasa, I cannot strengthen enough how grateful I am to see your unwavering, continuous support and commitment to Georgia and our fight for European values. Having friends like you in times of trouble is invaluable. I am humbled that my name stands on the hearing agenda on Georgia. It is, of course, not about me but about the Georgian people who have demonstrated incredible resilience in the fight against Russia. This is not a fight for one person's liberty; it is a fight for a nation's dignity and the defense of its European choice.  I wanted you to know that I am ready to be in prison as long as it takes and I have no concerns about my personal imprisonment. The most important thing is to mobilize enough attention on the strategic challenges that Europe is facing in Georgia, which you are so successfully doing. Bidzina Ivanishvili may want to use us as a bargaining chip, as hostages, which we should not allow to happen. I do not seek my personal freedom; I seek freedom for the Georgian people. As you know, the opposition has managed to unite in an alliance – Opposition Alliance – which I believe will give an additional boost to the Georgian case. Recent sanctions from both the EU and the UK have shown how effective these measures are. Since Georgian people are committed to fight, we, the political prisoners, are committed to fight, and since you, our friends, are also committed to fight, I am confident we will prevail! Thank you once again! Elene Khoshtaria’ Georgia and Georgians, you are not lost for us, for the European Union!”

The OSCE PA delegation said the next elections must comply with OSCE commitments. Correct. Then say clearly what that requires: an end to repression, no party bans, access to political prisoners, and real democratic safeguards before asking the opposition to “engage constructively.
