When performing CPR on a child, begin with five rescue breaths before starting chest compressions. This is important as a lack of oxygen is the most common cause of cardiac arrests in children.

While we were celebrating A level results last week, we had a celebration of our own. Two of our responders passed their L3 course with @EMAS_CFR. They can now respond to paediatric patients, are trained to use our lifting chair, and can administer entonox and salbutamol.

Thinking of swimming in open water? Don’t risk it. Jumping into cold water can trigger cold water shock, causing gasping, disorientation, heart problems, and even death. Find organised open water swim sessions that’ll be supervised by experts.

What are Community First Responders? Community First Responders (CFRs) make the difference when minutes matter. Community First Responders are volunteers who belong to local schemes. They attend 999 emergency calls in their own community. In the East Midlands on behalf of EMAS.
