Today’s vinyl delivery from (possibly) the Godfathers of Punk! “Demo Record” of “Saturday Night” by The Bay City Rollers’ early line up featuring top man Gordon “Nobby” Clark on lead vocals. The Ramones clearly loved it too and used it as a map to direct them onwards and upwards.

Watching ‘Top Of The Pops - 2000” and reminded of the times when you could be on TV and also sign on the dole. Props to the keyboard player fella (or lady) wearing the rubber “alien” mask! 🎼😎🎼

*Pub Crawl’s End*. Final pint of today is @StewartBrewing’s “Edinburgh Gold”. My feeling is they’ve changed the recipe since its creation a decade or more ago but it still works pretty well. Anyway, must dash. I need to go home. I have a piano to sell at 6pm. Doesn’t everyone? 😎

Well… next Friday is another huge milestone in our journey together, and I just wanted to say thank you. Right now I’m sitting on a wee balcony in Rhodes with my sister, her husband and the kids, trying to switch my brain off for five minutes. Truth is, I don’t get much time off, so when I do, I don’t pace around the house pretending to relax. I usually book the cheapest flight leaving that day, throw some shorts in a bag and go sit beside the sea. Funnily enough a therapist (who I somehow ended up dating once… 🤣) asked me why I was always running away. I cannae really remember what I answered. I’d spent most of the session wondering whether the chair I was sitting on had a better story than just being a chair. That’s the songwriter’s curse. You start believing there’s always another meaning waiting to be found 😂 Anyway…. Back to the point. I’ve finally locked in the Edinburgh Castle setlist… and I think it’s the longest one we’ve ever played. Truth is, every time I tried to cut a song I imagined somebody driving home saying, ‘The wee dick never played my favourite lol So… they’re all staying this time even if the lights get turn off and the mic gets cut. 😂 Seriously though, thank you. I never really know how to repay people for backing me all these years. I try my best to stop and chat whenever I bump into you, spend time with folk, or jump on here and tell you how much it all means, because without sounding too cheesy… none of this exists without you. I’d be still sat singing in the pub eyes closed pretending I was at the castle. I’ve been more emotional than usual this week obviously. There have been years of setbacks, doors closing and wondering if we’d ever get here. So standing on the edge of this show feels like taking the biggest breath and finally saying to the industry… Can you see us now? 😂 Well.. we’ve done this bit. Because if you know me, you’ll know I don’t know how to quit. I genuinely don’t give up on anything. don’t give up on music, and I don’t give up on people I love. It’s only the tip of the iceberg for us all but my ice pick is firmly intact and I’m ready to keep climbing! I don’t know the stats, but I reckon there’s a chance this could be the first independent artist to headline Edinburgh Castle. If that’s true, then that achievement belongs to every single one of you just as much as it does to me. It’s always felt like us against the world. There’s one last thing that’s been on my mind. There are a few people I love who won’t be there next Friday. Friends, family… and some of the fans we’ve sadly lost along the way. I know many of you will be carrying thoughts of people you wish could have been there too. I’d like to think they’ll all have the best seat in the house. So when those songs start, I’ll be singing for every one of them just as much as I am for the people standing in front of me. Thank you for believing in me and my songs. It honestly means more than you’ll ever know. See you at the Castle. Yer pal Cal x

I feel the need to openly thank Borders General Hospital for their incredibly quick response to my recent health issue. After my doctor first contacted them I was contacted, seen and sorted within 3 days thanks to a cancellation. God bless the NHS.

Watching France v Morocco whilst ordering underpants on eBay. I believe this is what’s known as “multitasking”.

From Melrose we went to similarly charming St. Boswells, then it was onwards to the William Wallace statue at Bemersyde and finally to the always impressive Scott’s View. I’ve lived in the Borders for over 30 years and its beauty continues to amaze me daily.

After today’s “procedure” I spent some time in the delightful town of Melrose and visited its former railway station.

In and out in 20 mins. All clear. Not the most pleasant experience but well worth it if you have concerns “downstairs”. Thanks to Borders General Hospital for seeing me incredibly quickly. Right, I’m off to @mainstreethare for coffee and cake. Might take in Scott’s View as well.

The sun is shining and it’s an ideal day to have a camera inserted into your tadger / boaby / old fella. This is however not my first Endoscopy rodeo. Let the games begin.

Update: After much consideration and soul searching the heating remains in the “OFF” position and will hopefully stay that way until October at least. 🤞

It is with great sadness and considerable emotional turmoil that I have to announce that it’s 7th of July here in the currently dull and wet Scottish Borders and…the Central Heating is going back on. This is a sad, dark, depressing day…unless of course you are @OctopusEnergy.
