Another €3,000 to an NGO - sure what's the harm!
The Red Cross had €24,000,000 in income in 2024 - they're in receipt of countless grants and receive ample corporate donations from the likes of PayPal, Facebook, Microsoft, etc. But they needed €3,000 from Fingal's budget for "equipment."
Nothing short of a shake down.
They spent €4,000,000 on resettling refugees in the same year (2024). Maybe if they didn't do that, they'd have ample money to buy "equipment".
What's more interesting is the fact that these "grants" require no approval from councillors at a local level, no vote, no consent to spend your money on these things, just the unelected bureaucrats happy at it with a rubber stamp sending it up the chain. When these grants come in at the local level, they are just for noting. They then go on to a full council meeting for final approval. I will be pushing for a vote on this issue at the next full council meeting on Monday, 13th April.

For Ukraine, it is very important that the principle of opening clusters for a country that fulfils its obligations finally starts to work. I provided a detailed briefing on the results of my visits to countries in the Middle East and the protection system that Ukraine proposed there. We are ready to work in the same format with European partners, both on a bilateral basis and within the SAFE instrument. In all dimensions, Europe must be protected, and Ukrainian expertise can make a significant contribution to security. I thank Ireland for all its support – military, humanitarian, and energy-related. I am personally grateful to Helen McEntee for taking part in the Bucha Summit, which took place yesterday, on the fourth anniversary of the liberation of Bucha from Russian occupiers.

I was pleased to welcome my Irish colleague @HMcEntee to Kyiv on the 34th anniversary of our diplomatic relations.
Yesterday we visited Bucha, a stark symbol of Russia’s brutality and the immense suffering inflicted on Ukrainians. Such visits remind us why accountability and justice must prevail.
I am grateful to Ireland for its steadfast support, including the recent timely €25 million contribution to the Ukraine Energy Support Fund and today’s announcement of €40.3 million humanitarian assistance.
Ireland remains a reliable partner of Ukraine as we launch implementation of the Ukraine–Ireland Partnership Roadmap to 2030, a new chapter in our bilateral cooperation focused on recovery, resilience, and security.
Today we held our second Strategic Dialogue meeting, following our first one in Dublin in 2025, and had in-depth and productive exchange on advancing our cooperation and Ukraine`s European path.
We are committed to delivering tangible results already this year and to deepening economic ties, including through preparations for the second Ukraine–Ireland Economic Forum in 2026.
We will welcome Ireland’s and Irish businesses’ active role in the recovery of Ukraine.
