After another round of xenophobic attacks, most Africans are done pretending. They’re backing Mexico in this World Cup instead of pretending South Africa represents the continent. Who are you supporting?

@Yknip1 I don't blame you for being upset about illegal immigration. My post was mostly making the point that government failure to protect their citizens from illegal immigration often leads to this sort of violence. That doesn't at all justify the violence itself, however.

More African countries are repatriating their citizens from South Africa following the terrible xenophobic violence there. There are a lot of lessons that stand out from the incident, a primary one being that if a national government can't or won't fulfill its responsibility to prevent large-scale illegal immigration, violent people will eventually try to do it themselves. Sadly, I suspect this won't be the end of this type of violence in South Africa.

@JMeservey It won't be, because they will eventually come back. Our government is not prepared to deal decisively with the issue of immigration. No plan for safe boarders, once the noise tone down they are coming and we are back from square one.

@Nwafresh The reason why you flood SA is because of poverty in your home countries and you are looking for green pasture, funny how we are in poverty as SA all over a sudden. Relax we will wipe all of you illegal thugs, no emotional blackmail will stop us.

@Nwafresh Poverty in SA is better compared to other African countries especially those in West Africa. Just a lack of Job opportunities, while carrying a burden of criminals who wants to illegally come to SA and insult us. Personally I am not in poverty sorry, I afford life.

@weloveghana042 Returned from UK to SA? How come? When you return you go back home, in Ghana that’s where his home is. If he sells drugs in SA he will be dealt with. We have no business to massage criminals in SA

🇬🇭🇿🇦 A Ghanaian popularly known as “Sabato,” a staunch supporter of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), was attacked in South Africa after returning from the UK last month with valid travel documents. According to him, South African police and some xenophobic South Africans assaulted him after claiming he was a Nigerian involved in drug dealing. He further stated that his properties were destroyed and cash and other valuables were stolen.

@jackson_rem @Ojukwu_Bianca So documentation is not important when it comes to SA? Why are these government officials defending law breakers? So, SA must just accept illegal foreigners on basis that they are black and we black also? So you allow people without documentation to enter and stay in Nigeria?

Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, @Ojukwu_Bianca, says the government is considering punitive measures against South Africa over the alleged mistreatment of Nigerians in the country. Possible measures under consideration reportedly include the closure of South African businesses operating in Nigeria and the expulsion of South African nationals.
