There's a massive problem coming down the tracks for Ireland. People renting in their 40s and 50s can't save. What happens when they hit pension age? "The state pension is €1,037 a month. The average rent of a one-bedroom Dublin apartment is €1,388." rte.ie/news/primetime…

Doctors should be able to write prescriptions for housing the same way they do for insulin or antibiotics.

I met with 3 tenants facing eviction for sale of property. Combined, they have over 35 years on Council housing lists. Their landlords have been given nearly 300k of our public wealth for an insecure home. This scandal must stop, give renters real security & build public housing

Here’s inside one of Dublin’s new legal bedsits You can’t open the bathroom door without hitting the bed. Smaller than a disabled car park space. For €1,300 a month. thetimes.co.uk/article/3cc668…

But the main question is: how many voters are learning something? Left parties have a real responsibility here to try and make the alternative visible and put clear water between themselves and what FF and FG will be offering. And put a clear no down to coalition with either.

The investors selling these new legal bedsits are making massive amounts of money. One group spent €40 million buying up these types of properties around Dublin. In just three years, they made a profit of €20 million.

Big story - Dublín bedsits are back. Investors are making a fortune renovating outlawed bedsits to make them legal. Studios that used to cost €600 now cost €1,300. Some flats are just 12 sq m - smaller than a disabled parking space. thetimes.co.uk/article/e0bab9…

#LeadersDebate facts are some landlords are leaving the market to go to the even more lucrative short-term lets like Airbnb. Banning entire homes and apartments on s/t lets platfirms would lead to immediate supply for long term renters and drive down rents.

It is not arithmetically possible for rents to fall while there is a statutory increase in rents of 4% per annum for renters in pressure zones without factoring in other areas. #LeadersDebate #RTEPT #GE2020
