Today we preview 2022-23 from the perspective of our W1, who will again be looking for promotion from @HockeyWestUK Trelawney Div. 1. With CSM, @trurohockeyclub and @StAustellHockey replacing Falmouth 2s, Newquay 2s and Penzance 2s, we have a few more 1st XIs to play this year!

With @HockeyWestUK releasing the list of divisions for next season (good work guys), here's our preview of what next season holds in store for our teams, starting with the M1 in Div. 1 South. The big news for our 1s is that we have a LOT less travel this season #phew

@BartonHockey @ArchieSpittles Define "over run"... Why is it a problem having uni sides involved at all? More teams, more participation, more hockey. West Midlands Men's Prem has three uni sides, two of which are 1st and 2nd - it looks like they're improving the standard of the top division at least.

@DuchyHC @ArchieSpittles I think it may possibly be a different scenario in your area but the midlands is becoming over run with with uni sides in the weekend leagues just because of how many there are in the area

Looks like uni sides are slowly killing off the good nature of weekend hockey for clubs,no hospitality & really poor social skills. Uni sides be banned from weekend hockey before it gets too late and clubs sides stop wanting to play because of them @MRHARESULTS @EnglandHockey

@BartonHockey @ArchieSpittles Again, there's absolutely no basis for that claim... This paints a picture which just isn't true. Not to mention "3rd team level" is a totally meaningless term in an open league structure where you have 1st XIs in the same division as 7th XIs.

@ArchieSpittles 3rd team level where people play for enjoyment and half their fixtures are against uni sides, would most likely put a lot of people off playing

@BartonHockey @MRHARESULTS @EnglandHockey No, they're not - Uni teams have been part of the @HockeyWestUK leagues for over 20 years and are very much part of the hockey family down here You're experience so far has clearly not been a good one, but don't try and promote the removal of 25% of our league teams.

Another shocking away day experience with hospitality from another uni side, 4 pizzas chucked at as before even showing between a full team leaving some players with no food. No oppo stayed around and no offer of anywhere to go back to for a drink @hockeymatchteas @MRHARESULTS

@BartonHockey @MRHARESULTS Amazing the difference in experience you guys seem to have in the Midlands compared to down here (West). Unisides have been part of the leagues for years & those we face regularly (@ExeterUniHC, @plymunihockey, @CSMMHC, etc) generally do bloody brilliant teas & are always social.

Why are these uni sides allowed to be in the Saturday club leagues if they aren’t going to offer after match hospitality @MRHARESULTS

3s 5-1 4s Double strike! Tiki taka from the 3s after a counter and it’s Buckdog who bundles the ball over the line with a scrappy finish. AND it’s two in two for DBarcs with a lovely reverse stick finish high to the keeper’s left. #FastestManInTheClub #ScoringStreak
