To those claiming this is gay who cares overall. Secondly hobbits are very communal and family oriented. Hobbits are probably also lot more openly affectionate as well. So ether way it actually was a good decision that is accurate to how hobbits are. I never viewed them as gay personally I just viewed it as how hobbits are living in a more tight knit openly affectionate society where they value family and friendship deeply.
