Important to note the actual zoning bylaw changes will go through a full public hearing and come back to Council for final approval at a later date.

Tomorrow at City Council, we'll have an important vote on supporting zoning changes in principle to qualify for up to $192 million in federal housing funding. These same conversations are taking place across Canada. Here's a look at changes that have been made just this year:

@ScottGillingham Awesome! I love it, hope the discussions go well! How will you address the water and waste capacity being limiting factor in most density driven developments?

Our plan for federal Housing Accelerator Fund $ includes creating more than a thousand units of affordable and supportive housing over the next three years alone. But first we have to qualify! Important EPC and Council discussions ahead in the next few weeks.

It took all the self control I have not to make a crappy pun on the first heading. New zoning changes to allow 4 plexes throughout Winnipeg will be useless without appropriate water and waste capacity. Grey Water Recycling could help if we would let it! dueckbuilders.com/4-plexes-and-f…

@bigshotfishguy If it were up to me I would subsidize heat pumps in rural areas and not in cities. Where you're stuck on electric heat pump is way to go. NG still has a large role to play in Manitoba as we reduce carbon footprint.

They literally stop working at minus 20 or so. I learned that the hard way.

@kinsellawarren Sorry to say, heat pumps, which our technically challenged PM is hawking right now, are not effective or efficient in the prairies or northern Canada or when the temperature goes below 5C. Canadians aren't stupid, we would have done this before if it had made sense then. #cdnpoli

@HelloImage80 @WatcherAfar @kinsellawarren @MitsubishiCAN Unfortunately it's not quite that simple. If you compare the 10-year total cost of ownership the Mitsubishi will be far cheaper then an all Electric System before the warranty is even up. Upfront cost is substantially higher you are right about that.

@Starky192985 @kinsellawarren There are definitely stretches when it is running on the emergency backup heat function which is just an electric resistance furnace essentially. Still is an absolute Game Changer and saves a ton of cash if you don't have access to gas or have more expensive Hydro than Manitoba

@SteveRonson99 @kinsellawarren Installation costs are about 10k more than gas high ef and standard a/c. In Manitoba with cheap hydro it's slightly cheaper than gas above zero and then the efficiency curve goes down to same price as Electric when you're at-25. And electric is roughly three times the cost of gas

@SteveRonson99 @kinsellawarren The added benefit in summer is you have a more efficient cooling solution than a regular air conditioner, and Mitsubishi has designed a system that is exceptionally good at dehumidifying

@CatoAmerica @kinsellawarren We build in Winnipeg and surrounding area. We have had great success with Mitsubishi and their cold climate heat pump. The zuba central! Need to see more education on levels of heat pump. Great option especially when gas isn't available!
