At @StateHouseKenya, Nairobi, launched the Shirika Plan, a landmark initiative that integrates refugees with host communities in our country. This will upgrade our refugee management, shifting from humanitarian dependency to a more inclusive and progressive development model anchored in the philosophy of 'African solutions to African and global challenges'. Centred on human rights, the Shirika Plan will also nurture burden-sharing, resilience and shared prosperity amid donor fatigue and global diminishing humanitarian support. With us were Deputy President @KindikiKithure, United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees @FilippoGrandi, Cabinet Secretaries, Governors Jeremiah Lomorukai (Turkana) and @Nathif_J_Adam (Garissa), among other leaders.

We extend our deep appreciation to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (@Refugees) for their outstanding support in managing refugee affairs and acknowledge the strong, enduring partnership between our country and the UNHCR in addressing refugee challenges. We reaffirm Kenya's commitment to fostering an environment that enables the UNHCR to carry out its mandate effectively. In a productive meeting with @mamadou_dbalde, UNHCR Director for the Regional Bureau of East and Horn of Africa and the Great Lakes, and Caroline van Buren, UNHCR Representative in Kenya, we discussed the upcoming 75th Session of the Executive Committee of the United Nations High Commissioner’s Program (UNHCR EXCOM) in Geneva, Switzerland and the Shirika Plan, which, once finalized, will mark a pivotal shift in Kenya’s approach to managing refugee affairs. This plan envisions transitioning from the traditional camp model to a more sustainable and dignified framework of integrated settlements, reflecting our government’s commitment to innovative and humane solutions for refugee management.

UNHCR has brought life-saving aid from Chad to remote areas in Sudan’s Darfur. Vulnerable people, repeatedly displaced by war and floods, will receive essential items like kitchen sets, blankets and solar lamps. Thousands of lives are at stake—safe passage for aid is crucial.
