During the Nigerian Civil War, many Igbo people fled cities like Lagos, leaving behind houses and property. Alex Ekwueme (then a young architect) left his house in Apapa. His neighbour, Otunba Subomi Balogun, a banker did not seize the property. Instead, he removed intruders from the house, renovated it and rented it out while Ekwueme was away. He carefully kept all the rent proceeds. When the war ended and Ekwueme returned, Balogun handed back the house to him and gave him a full envelope of all the rent collected Ekwueme was reportedly shocked, because many others lost their properties during that period. About a decade later, Ekwueme became Vice President under President Shehu Shagari (Second Republic, 1979–1983). Subomi Balogun wanted to establish his own bank but faced significant hurdles at the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Officials resisted because it was unprecedented for a private Nigerian citizen to own a commercial bank without foreign partners; there were also political suspicions (some alleged he might use it to finance certain politicians). After failing to get traction through official channels, Balogun turned to his old friend. One Sunday after Church Service, he and his wife "cornered" Ekwueme at the Cathedral Church in Marina, Lagos. They physically grabbed Ekwueme and his wife's clothing to get past security and plead their case. Ekwueme listened, reassured him, and instructed him to come to the Federal Executive Council meeting he would preside over (as Shagari was absent). That very Thursday, the Finance Minister called Balogun to confirm that the license had been approved on Ekwueme's instruction. This paved the way for FCMB and reportedly opened doors for other indigenous banks. Balogun later opened an FCMB branch in Ekwueme's hometown of Oko (Anambra State) in continuation of their friendship. We love ourselves, it is the politicians that are dividing us.

yes, i do and it’s actually more important than most people think the blue flame is what u want, what everyone wants. it means the gas is getting enough oxygen so it burns clean and efficiently. it comes from complete combustion which produces heat, carbon dioxide and water vapor... hotter, safer and better for cooking. the yellow/orange flame is a warning sign. it means incomplete combustion maybe cos the burner is dirty or airflow is blocked. that color can produce carbonmonoxide which is very dangerous for your health. it also wastes energy and gives you bad heat. learn something 👍
Dapsy𓃵@symplyDAPO

Does anyone know the actual difference between these two flames?

We are doing this for our children and future generations to come. UNN students are living in conditions no one should accept. Meanwhile, funds have been released for hostel maintenance. So we asked for the records. All of it. They have 7 days to respond. If they don’t, we go to court.

When Olusegun Obasanjo was looking for a Minister of Finance, he picked Malam Adamu Ciroma. A former CBN Governor and seasoned economic and policy adviser. He later picked Dr Ngozi Iweala, a PhD from MIT and a World Bank senior economic manager. Nenadi Usman was a junior minister and her appointment was strictly political. She didn't qualify for the role. When Umaru Yar'adua was appointing a Finance Minister, he picked Dr Shamsuddeen Usman, a PhD from London School of Economics and Political Science, former Central Banker, former university academic, and former UBA manager. He later chose Dr Mansur Mukhtar, MSc Cambridge, PhD Sussex (Economics), Senior Economist, and former DG Debt Management Office. Goodluck Jonathan appointed Olusegun Aganga, Senior Director at Ernst and Young London, MD Goldman Sachs London, World Bank and IMF Board Member. He later reappointed Dr Ngozi Iweala as Coordinating Minister for the Economy. The rot started with the APC administration. Muhammadu Buhari appointed Kemi Adeosun. She has BSc Economics from the University of East London, a Postgraduate Diploma and certified Chartered Accountant as Finance Minister. She didn't even have NYSC certificate. He later appointed Zainab Shamsuna. She has BSc Accounting from ABU Zaria and MBA from Olabisi Onabanjo University. Was Executive Secretary at NEITI but had no relevant professional work experience in finance. Bola Tinubu went tribal. He picked Wale Edun, a former Commissioner of Finance in Lagos and merchant banker. He has BSc, and MSc in Economics from the University of London. He later replaced him with Taiwo Oyedele, A HND holder in Accounting, MSc from Oxford Brookes, and former tax consultant at PwC. He has zero work experience in finance. Dr Doris Nkiruka is a medical doctor. She's a Certified Finance Analyst and MBA holder but have zero work experience in finance administration. Are you wondering why our economy has deteriorated under the APC administrations? The quality of their strategic appointments has been abysmal. It's either tribalism or nepotism. Merit is a second consideration!

In 2014, APC enlisted Omojuwa, Dipo, and others to run a smear campaign against Jonathan. They mocked him with a coffin, called him “Jonathan-Haram,” and Soyinka called his wife a “Shepopotamus.” They also went after Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala. Now, in 2026, the same APC figures are calling others bullies. Animals in human form.

If you are selling something you claim is that expensive, you should at least spend some money on quality video production. I don’t care if anyone buys it for 100m. I just get upset when people don’t understand that luxury is a complete story and not mediocre half measures. While at it, buy a better fitting suit.

I studied Communication Arts at the University of Uyo, where I gained a strong foundation in public relations and political communication. I have also completed short courses in product and brand management, further sharpening my understanding of perception, positioning, and audience engagement. I’m not just a photographer, I understand the power of imagery and precise language in shaping narratives, especially within political communication. Peter Obi is not just my boss, he’s a product I am currently managing and marketing. This is one of Peter Obi’s advantage. His ability to spot resourceful young people to work with.

Nigeria Is Not A Country. It Is Gilbert Chagoury’s Private Estate. I was in Geneva today. Two hours with a very senior Swiss banker — a good friend. The subject was Gilbert Chagoury. This man does not laugh easily. He laughed constantly. Every time I described what was happening in Nigeria — every contract, every honour, every port deal — he laughed. Not with me. At Nigeria. And I sat there feeling something I rarely allow myself to feel. Shame. Here is what I was telling him. Since Tinubu took office, Gilbert Chagoury — a man convicted in Switzerland for laundering Abacha’s stolen funds — has collected over $12.7 billion in Nigerian federal contracts. The Lagos-Calabar Highway. Tin Can Port. Apapa Port. Snake Island. All without competitive bidding. And the President’s son Seyi sits on the board of a Chagoury Group subsidiary — then goes on television to tell Nigerians his father is not enriching his friends. My banker friend laughed at that one the longest. In January, Tinubu gave Chagoury Nigeria’s second highest national honour. The presidency didn’t even announce it. Someone posted a photograph on X. Then came London. A £746 million port financing deal sealed at Downing Street during Tinubu’s state visit — with Chagoury reportedly in the delegation, and his company already selected to execute the contract. The British know his history. They have decided it does not matter. My Swiss friend told me plainly: Nigeria will never be taken seriously as long as a man who helped Abacha loot the treasury can return decades later, collect billions in contracts, receive national honours, stand beside the President in London, and face zero consequence. He is right. I will not stop writing. But tonight I drove back to my hotel carrying the weight of a country that deserves so much better than what it is being given. A Nigerian man was working as a cashier at a DIY (hardware) store in London. He was caught letting his wife steal £200 worth of materials. Both convicted. One year later he was arrested again. This time at Euston station with another man’s stolen credit card. Convicted again. He returned to Nigeria. And he ran for governor of Delta State. Nigerian law said you cannot run if you have a criminal conviction. He forged his date of birth on his passport to hide his UK record. Nobody checked. He won. 😂😂😂 His official salary as governor was $25,000 a year. He bought six properties in London. A mansion in Johannesburg. Properties in Washington and Houston. A private jet worth $20 million. A Bentley. A Maybach. A fleet of armoured Range Rovers. His American Express bills showed he spent tens of thousands of dollars every single month on luxury hotels, clubs and shopping. In 2007 Nigeria’s anti-corruption chief accused him of stealing $250 million from Delta State. Ibori offered the EFCC chairman $15 million in cash to drop the case. The chairman pretended to accept. Then deposited the cash at the Central Bank. Nigerian courts still acquitted him on all 170 charges. He ran. Escaped to Dubai. A mob of his supporters fought off the police trying to arrest him. Interpol caught him in Dubai. The UK extradited him. In 2012 he pleaded guilty in a London court. The judge called the £50 million he admitted to stealing “ludicrously low.” He was sentenced to 13 years. Served half. Returned to Nigeria in 2017. A sitting senator was in the crowd that welcomed him home. His name is James Ibori. Nigeria never convicted him once. 🇳🇬

Tinubu in Jos Confirms ‘Don't Vote for Me’ Prediction on Power Supply During the 2023 campaign, President Tinubu made a clear electoral promise: “If I don’t give you constant electricity in four years, don’t vote for me for a second term.” When he took office in 2023, Nigeria had a power supply of over 4,000 megawatts and lower tariffs. Today, the electricity power supply is less than 4,000 megawatts on the average, and Nigerians are paying higher tariffs. Nigeria currently has the lowest per capita electricity consumption in the world, with a rate below 30% of the African average. Africa’s average is 617kwh, Nigeria’s is 144 kWh. This means that Nigerians consume least electricity than other Africans. In a glaring display of disregard for promises and a lack of trust, President Tinubu, during a brief airport stopover to visit grieving families of the Jos attack on Thursday, April 2, 2026, stated that one of the reasons for his 10-minute stay was that the airport had no electricity. “You have no light here I fly out in ten minutes” At a time when Nigerians are enduring days without power, our leaders cannot even stay a few minutes without it. Now is the time to stop incompetent leaders—those lacking the capacity and compassion—who prioritise their own comfort over the well-being of the people and make empty promises. A new Nigeria is POssible. -PO
