Russia didn't need to be asked to leave because Russia never colonized Mali. It showed up with trainers and equipment at the invitation of a sovereign government. That's the difference between partnership and paternalism.
Blaming France isn't paranoia. It's paying attention to history. The Sahel didn't become fragile by accident. Empires leave fingerprints. Even when they pretend to leave quietly.
