He plans to remain in Nuuk until May 19, when the special U.S. envoy Jeff Landry — independently of Cliff’s trip — is planning a controversial visit to the Greenlandic capital. And if it turns out that Greenlanders — contrary to his expectations — have no interest at all in becoming an American state, he says he already has a backup plan. “I will do my best as a human being. Could you possibly check whether one of your nursing homes is missing an 86-year-old gentleman by the name of Cliff Stanley?
He is currently roaming around Nuuk, Greenland, offering people 200,000 dollars to support turning Greenland into part of the United States.
I’m just wondering whether he may have wandered off unsupervised.

Global perceptions of US fall below Russia under Trump, survey finds
Global perceptions of the U.S. have deteriorated for a second consecutive year and are now worse than views of Russia, an annual study on democracy published on Friday showed, as U.S. President Donald Trump's policies continue to severely strain the NATO alliance.
The Democracy Perception Index survey, which ranks the perception of countries from -100% to +100%, showed that net perception of the U.S. had swung to -16% from +22% two years ago, placing it behind Russia at -11% and China at +7%.
Polling firm Nira Data conducted the survey between March 19 and April 21, based on more than 94,000 respondents in 98 countries. Country perceptions were measured in a sample of 46,600 respondents in 85 countries.

Premier of Greenland, Jens-Frederik Nielsen posted the following on Facebook:
🇬🇱 Greenland is not for sale 🇬🇱
It should not be necessary to say so. But apparently it is.
A foreign individual is offering money in exchange for a signature to incorporate Greenland into another country. That is not only deeply concerning. It is disgraceful.
This is not how you treat a people. And this is not how you speak about a country.
We are a democratic society. Our future will not be negotiated in a taxi. And it will not be bought with money.
I strongly condemn this kind of behavior. And I expect the respect that every country is entitled to to be shown internationally.
Decisions about our country are made by us alone. That should be easy to understand.

"How Canada is Enforcing Accountability on Corporations that Took Taxpayers Money."
The "collapse" of this trade deal stems directly from a demand for basic corporate accountability.
👉 Stellantis and General Motors accepted massive Canadian taxpayer subsidies with explicit job guarantees.
👉 They broke those signed contracts. Stellantis moved Jeep Compass production to Illinois, and GM eliminated shifts in Oshawa and shut down production in Ingersoll.
👉 Minister Joly enforced the agreements by threatening to sue and claw back the taxpayer funds.
The United States auto monopolies violated their deals. When Canada held them financially accountable for eliminating Canadian jobs, they lobbied the White House to kill the trade talks. Enforcing contracts and protecting domestic workers is the basic duty of a sovereign government. Canada holds corporations accountable.

‼️Because Stellantis accepted massive Canadian taxpayer subsidies with explicit job guarantees, and then deliberately moved production of the Jeep Compass from Brampton, Ontario, to Illinois. They broke their signed contract with Canadian workers.

Let us state the facts. Joly reacted to a direct attack on the Canadian auto sector. U.S. auto monopolies violated their agreements with Canada, eliminated Canadian jobs, and when faced with financial penalties, they ran crying to their buddy Donald Trump to kill the trade deal.
Canada invests in companies. When those companies do not respect their part of the deal, should Canada just bow?
