@mickcooper77 The uncertainty around what’s happening is the most destructive. Decisions can’t be made on rumours. I wish they’d decide one way or the other and let us know

There's been rumours recently that the BPS are planning to shut down the independent route to qualification as a counselling psychologist. Very concerning, particularly as there's been no consultation, as far as I know, with the actual Division. linkedin.com/pulse/bps-qual…

@JonathanShedler Freud is to psychodynamic therapy what the Wright brothers are to aeronautical engineering. Even in their first aircraft, lift, drag, thrust and gravity applied. So you can learn the basics from them, but no aeronatical engineer would stop there.

WTF is a “Freudian Therapist?” I have no idea Would you refer to a “Darwinian biologist?” “Copernican astronomer?” Surely not News flash: Freud wrote in horse & buggy era, literally. Did you think psychoanalytic theory/practice has been preserved in a mausoleum ever since?
Firas D@firasd

@dylanmatt When I first heard that Freudian therapists have to go through this same type of therapy themselves to get qualified to treat patients I was like.. this sounds like a cult

What’s going on here? Why did Prince Harry shove the little black children? I don’t want to read too much into it but it doesn’t look very good.

Patients communicate in psychotherapy via THREE channels 1️⃣words 2️⃣nonverbal communication 3️⃣countertransference The most important information is often in the countertransference—and skilled therapists *use* it constructively Here's an example of how psychologytoday.com/intl/blog/psyc…

@JonathanShedler Very interesting! “Therapy is a relationship, so problematic relationship patterns show up in the therapy relationship too.” I see how this would happen when a client is seen several times a week. But is seeing a client once a week enough for relationship patterns to emerge?

"You can ask a person a question and get a perfectly truthful answer. You can ask, 'What more comes to mind?' and get a different answer that is also true. You can continue this way, discovering layers of experience. But there are obstacles along the way." bit.ly/3Mm5Cjg

@JDaviesPhD Both ‘patient’ and ‘client’ imply a kind of relationship. Thus either can have an impact on the therapeutic relationship. The real task is not to choose between them but to understand how each influences the therapist-client / therapist patient in sessions.

'Patient' is a medical term - defined as 'a person who is receiving medical care' (Cantab & Oxon dics), which is why I don't use it to describe the people we see in psychotherapy. They are not receiving medical care but psychotherapeutic. The term 'patient' is thus misleading.

Jung looked to the meaning and teleological dimension of the symbol, focusing on its attempt express some quality of the archetype, and its role of carrying new information and experiences to the individual.

I'm BAFFLED by therapists spending hours catching up on "notes." What in god's name are you writing? Who do you think they're for? Hint: Chart notes are NOT for your benefit—or your patient's (just the opposite). They should meet letter of the law & NOTHING MORE. Here's example:
Bradley Boivin@DrBradleyBoivin

@evolvingwithdeb @JonathanShedler Dx: 309.9 (or Z03.89?). Tx goal: Decrease severity, frequency & duration of psychosocial distress; Improve quality of life. Objectives: Actively engage in psychotherapy; Identify, verbalize & gain insight into problems with living; Take active steps toward self-directed change.

I think the thing that bothers me most about the concept of “self care” is the implicit idea that people who don’t value themselves enough and others too much just need to be told they deserve to or ought to take care of themselves. Those that need this advice most can’t take it.

Kadyrov has published a video of himself in the hospital. He claims that he has been at the bedside of his sick uncle. Kadyrov is never shown up close in the video. He commented on his well-being rather vaguely: "At the same time, I will comment on the rumors surrounding my health condition. Praise be to Allah Almighty, I am alive and well and I don't understand why even in case of my illness there should be a fuss? Although there is a good thing in it - now the audience knows which media and which individuals are blatantly lying to their readers."
