@Azufre451 I would love to! There are so many exciting updates to share. I'll submit an abstract through the portal. Thanks for the suggestion!

Despite 84% of the world's population residing in low- and middle-income countries, these populations are vastly underrepresented in gut microbiome research. Here, we expand the microbiome atlas of Africa through a study of 1,800 women in four countries. biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

Check out the preprint to learn more about the relationship between geography and microbiome composition, microbial novelty in African populations, microbiome-HIV associations, and our model of community-engaged and equitable microbiome research!

It's a privilege to be in a team that's dedicated to equitable collaboration, community-engaged research, and genomic capacity building. I've been lucky to partner with excellent scientists and role models, including @shazeZA, @V3ed, @JakobWirbel , Luicer Olubayo, and Ami Bhatt.

While most studies use relative microbial measurements, excellent prior work has used absolute quantification to infer the directionality of changing microbial abundances. Using these methods, we identified how absolute microbial composition changed across storage methods.

Curious how to sample large gut microbiome cohorts and minimize sample handling bias? Want to incorporate absolute abundance measurements into your studies? Check out our manuscript on measuring taxonomic bias introduced by sample collection methods. nature.com/articles/s4158…

Grateful that Satya captured the moment I read (and then reread and then rereread) the email from @NSF saying I received the GRFP!! 🤩 This funding will TRANSFORM my grad school experience and I am so thankful. Zoom in for small tears 🥹

What an amazing week it has been at #ISME18! It was such a joy and privilege to present some of AWI-Gen's (@shazeZA) microbiome work done in collaboration with Ami Bhatt's lab (@DylanMaghini , @Fiona_Tamburini ) in an equitable research space.
