I bought sand from Chinese men and signed a receipt written in Chinese. I was running a construction project and needed sharp sand urgently. Went to the dredging site. Sand being pumped straight from the river in large quantities. I asked who owned the operation. Chinese men bought the land. The river included. Our river. Our sand. Their business. I asked for the price. We agreed. Then they handed me a receipt. Written entirely in Chinese. I said I cannot sign what I cannot read. They said drop the sand and collect your refund. I needed that sand badly. I signed. They released the sand. I sat in my car thinking about this country.

@Google has killed, delayed, and resurrected the third-party cookie three times since 2020. Advertisers rewrote their entire stack each time. The lesson isn't about cookies. It's about building critical infrastructure on top of someone else's policy mood swings.

@asemota And the cleaners only clean the toilets once a day😩

When I got into UNIBEN in 1984, it was the first year the government has stopped meal and accomodation subsidies. We met the hostel in great shape and our bathrooms were clean and with mirrors. We even had shower curtains and the toilets were great. This was also because the rooms which were meant for two people used to have two people but the university was forced to take in more people that year and we became four in a room with two double bunks. That increase in population of people who were more impoverished because of the lack of meal subsidies suddenly put a lot of pressure on the facilities. We had only one cleaner on our floor for 10 rooms of 4 people each who also had some squatters. Each floor easily had 50 to 60 people sharing 4 toilets and 4 bathrooms. The result was chaos. I used to go to the common rooms and our faculty to use the toilets as they were cleaner. At the end of that year, the toilets and bathrooms looked like they were those of a refugee camp. Shower curtains and mirrors were gone and the walls stained. The cleaners couldn't cope. They also had their union issues with the authorities. When we came back to the same hostels the next year, the mirrors and shower curtains were gone and all the toilets didn't flush. It was a pigsty. The cleaners couldn't do much anymore as they were overwhelmed. There was no maintenance. The pitiable state forced most students who could afford it off campus and left the worst possible people in the hostels who reveled in the filth. These were people who used outdoor latrines and bathrooms before and didn't know any better. One thing I think also made the hostels better when we just came was that most people before us had also gone to boarding schools. We did all our cleaning by ourselves in boarding schools and the habit continued. This changed with our set. We had more people without boarding school experience and who were from very impoverished backgrounds and had no appreciation of the facilities. It was when common room toilets also started to go bad, that I left the hostels and moved off campus. Moving off campus saved my life. I was frequently sick in the hostels and it affected my academics. People even started cooking in the hostels and it was a real shit show. This was in the 80s. You can imagine how bad things have become in almost 40 years. UNILAG shocked my consciousness when I went there in my final year to stay a night. It was even worse than UNIBEN. One night alone and I ran back to Benin. This was all widespread and a foreboding of what was to happen to Nigeria. I have this theory that people’s outlook to life are perfectly reflected in the bathrooms and toilets they use. This is the same for companies and even airlines. All the airlines I have used who had filthy toilets always had plane crashes. It was the sign of a culture of Anyhowness. This is largely on the students.

This is male hostel for University of Nigeria Nsukka (UNN). Eni Njoku hostel to be precise. Every student in this hostel is living worst than prisoners. We can’t continue this way.

Past and present government media aides are finding it difficult to defend this government! Facts are stubbornly stubborn. 2024 approved 3.3 trillion. 2025 approved 4 trillion. 2026 approved 3.3 trillion! Show us the Gencos that have been paid with these approvals! Basic questions they can’t answer, they abuse, and they become obtuse!

Our Chairman, Kanu Nwankwo said they can loan me the money I paid for my ACL surgery but will be deducting it from my Monthly salary, I refused" - Eze Ekwutoziam He was injured during one of Enyimba's trainings and had to pay for his surgery. Are we really sure our ex-internationals are ready to change the face of Nigerian football when placed in the corridors of power?

@Iampreshtush You, directly , attacked @Brightgoldenboy here. The question is, where was Edafe in 2013? What position was he in the force then? You people should try and be objective for once!

Edafe you’re not new to this tradition and you and the entire police force are a disgrace for letting this go on for years. This same incident happened in 2013 during the Agbarha otor Rape marathon that lasted 7days. What did y’all do about that? How many people got convicted? Where was the law when 100s of men gang raped an 8-year-old child in the name of Ekene festival? Y’all failed to safeguard women and you should be hiding in shame
SP Bright Edafe@Brightgoldenboy

This is alarming, disgusting and embarrassing. The CP has ordered an investigation into the incident. The command condemns this in totality, no custom or tradition is superior to the rights of citizens. The Commissioner of Police Delta State CP Aina Adesola urges Deltans to remain calm while assuring that those responsible for this barbaric act will be arrested and brought to justice. The command also calls for witnesses who can provide with useful information that can aid the ongoing investigation.
