The carcinogenic limits are allowed to be up to 2,000 times more than allowed in children's toys. Rubber crumb is classified as a mixture with PAH carcinogenic limits up to 1,000 mg/kg. The PAH carcinogenic limit for children's toys is 0.5 mg/kg. This has been reduced in the EU to a total for all PAHs of 20 mg/kg, which is still 40 times higher than allowed in children's toys. Unfortunately, our previous government refused to adopt this EU law that came into effect two years ago. The upcoming EU ban on the use of rubber crumb as infill in 3G pitches and for playground surfaces to protect health and the environment has been ignored by our government and sports stakeholders. Local councils are continuing to pass planning consent for more and more to be built, completely ignoring the health risks and environmental pollution. Please think about this and keep your children safe. Please keep them off of 3G pitches. .
