SNBS participated in the Second Global Workshop for Voluntary National Reviews in Brasília 🇧🇷, convened by United Nations Department of Economic & Social Affairs & hosted by Government of Brazil, in preparation for the High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development. The workshop provided a valuable platform for peer learning & exchange as countries prepare their 2026 VNRs, with a focus on more robust, evidence-based & policy-driven reviews. Somalia is preparing to present its second VNR later this year. During the sessions, SNBS presented Somalia’s SDG data journey, highlighting progress in strengthening administrative data systems, enhancing national coordination, expanding SDG data coverage & advancing use of data for informed policy and decision-making. Somalia values the rich discussions & collaboration with countries across regions working towards stronger, more inclusive & transparent SDG reporting. Earlier this week, I had the privilege to host a group of students at the Senate of Canada for the NextGEN Assembly of Leaders – a yearly event that brings students and political leaders together to talk policymaking, parliamentary business and democracy. In honour of the more than 80 students who participated and the countless organizers and volunteers who made it all happen; I rose in the Senate Chamber today to deliver a statement. 🍁 Au début de la semaine, j’ai eu le privilège d’accueillir un groupe d’étudiants au Sénat du Canada à l’occasion de l’Assemblée des leaders NextGEN, un événement annuel qui rassemble des étudiants et des dirigeants politiques pour discuter de l’élaboration des politiques, des travaux parlementaires et de la démocratie. En l’honneur des plus de 80 étudiants qui y ont participé et des innombrables organisateurs et bénévoles qui ont rendu cet événement possible, je me suis levé aujourd’hui dans la salle du Sénat pour prononcer une déclaration.

The war in the Middle East is wreaking enormous damage to economic growth through its disruption to global energy markets and supply chains. I joined Prime Minister @miaamormottley of Barbados at the Brookings Institution to discuss what policy solutions are needed in response to the crisis.

Today, at the closure of the retreat for the newly elected NRM Members of the 12th Parliament, I hosted them at Ngoma State Lodge. We toured the farm and walked to the bridge between River Mayanja and River Kafu, an area with historical significance linked to our liberation struggle, including the 1984 NRA attack on Masindi Barracks. I cautioned these young leaders against corruption, especially in Parliament. I also reiterated our long-standing message of moving Ugandans from subsistence living to the money economy, as demonstrated by the transformation of the cattle corridor through dairy farming.

On my way to the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, I held a working meeting with Rwanda’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, @onduhungirehe in the Istanbul’s airport. We discussed strengthening Ukraine–Rwanda relations, enhancing coordination in international organizations, and expanding economic cooperation. I reaffirmed Ukraine’s solidarity with the Rwandan people on the 32nd anniversary of the genocide against the Tutsi and also informed my counterpart about the Holodomor, stressing the importance of historical memory and the parallels between attempts to erase our peoples. Ukraine views Rwanda as an important emerging partner in Africa. I appreciate Rwanda’s support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and count on its continued backing in international organizations. We also discussed opportunities for further contacts and identified promising areas for bilateral cooperation, including security, agriculture, and investment.

H.E. Berk Baran, Ambassador of the Republic of Türkiye to Addis Ababa, paid me a courtesy call in my capacity as Chairperson of the Permanent Representatives’ Committee of the African Union. Our discussions focused on the upcoming #Türkiye–#Africa Partnership Summit, as well as on key issues of mutual interest.
