CJHS 9th graders in NYC at To Kill Mockingbird! Thanks Mrs. Merton & Mrs. Winard for a great experience!“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view...until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.” -Harper Lee @EBPublicSchools

When I thought I was already feeling so lucky as a teacher, Lois Lowry also responded! Now my Honors students have a chance to ask an author their questions too. I cannot wait to tell them! @EBEnglishDept

A6. For us to always remember it is not about class size, access to technology, or curricular resources rather the single most important factor that impacts a child’s experience at school is her or her teacher! Thanks @ekaplanteach for an awesome #EBedchat
Elizabeth Kaplan@ekaplanteach

I don't want this to end, but time is almost up! One last thing I want us all remember is that "Nothing changes if nothing changes" #ebedchat

A4. The Palette Lit Mag club at CJHS has been a huge success because it provides students with an artistic outlet to write and perform about anything they want! It has fostered such a positive community at CJHS. Thanks for making students feel like they matter @LA_LeClair!

Q4: “...the reliable presence of at least one supportive adult relationship and multiple opportunities for developing effective coping strategies ... are the essential building blocks for strengthening the capacity to do well in the face of adversity.” #ebedchat

A3. I think a perfect place for this in our English curriculum is with book clubs. We hope to group students in a club centered around a book they want to read and is at their level. This also gives our students choice!
Lauren LeClair@LA_LeClair

A3: This is something I struggle with. It’s a balancing act that’s in constant flux. As we reflect on our curriculum, it’s crucial to identify our non-negotiable skills so we are better prepared to meet Ss where they are while still preparing them for what’s next. #EBedchat

A2. Sharing personal stories to help students relate to us. I also think it’s important to help students understand the grades they receive in the class is not an indication of a teacher’s opinion about them. #EBedchat
Elizabeth Kaplan@ekaplanteach

Q2: So excited to see so many of you here! George Scott really got me thinking. One thing is “Children who have been traumatized, or have lived in chaotic circumstances, ‘need to be in environments that restore their sense of safety, control, and predictability…’”#ebedchat

A1. Jess Loux, English DC for grades 8-12. The importance of building relationships with our students and reading their body language-sometimes a “yuck” face can tell us more more about them! #Ebedchat

Ever wonder when and why kids lose the desire to read for pleasure? Here are some great ideas on how to reinvigorate that passion and love for books! #cjhs and #ebhs teachers, what else can we do to promote and encourage our students to read for fun? twitter.com/multcult07/sta…
