She has examined the anatomy and function of the pineal gland, along with the synthesis of melatonin and melatonin receptors in the brain and gonads of Dicentrarchus labrax. Providing important insights into the daily and seasonal regulation of melatonin function in teleosts.

Dr. Herrera-Pérez has extensive experience investigating melatonin signalling in teleosts. She is an associate professor of Zoology at the UCA's Department of Biology, Faculty of Marine and Environmental Sciences, and INMAR @eu_next @P_Recuperacion @univcadiz ⬇️

@eu_next @P_Recuperacion @univcadiz Working as a postdoc at QMUL for almost 6 years, she acquired a strong experience on investigating neuropeptide signalling systems in echinoderms. Her scope is now being broadened once more to encompass a deeper understanding of environmental physiology in aquaculture species.
