Hitting is the most difficult thing to do in sports: People forget that sometimes. You know what makes way hitters worse at something that’s already incredibly difficult to do? Fear based coaching. Tense. Stiff. Anxious. Reactive. “If you strike out looking, you’re on the bench.” “You don’t want it enough” Brutal approach. What kind of message is that sending to a hitter. Here’s a better option. Create calmness and conviction in your hitters. Let them know that it is impossible to cover all 9 squares of this zone. But whatever zone within the strike zone or area you are hunting, be 100% all in on that zone. Communicate with your hitters. “What’s your plan here?” Ok win there. Relentlessly hunt it. Convicted hitters win. Tense, reactive hitters lose, & don’t enjoy playing either because they are operating out of a fear, scarcity mindset. Instead of a mindset that creates, calmness, conviction, & consistency. There’s just simply a better way. Than just “compete” Relentlessly hunt your plan. Reassess on the back end. Repeat this process, every round, every game at bat. This is hitting. This is effective coaching. This is elite communication. It’s a lot calmer, less emotional, simple, & much more effective… Food for thought 💭

A Coach Cignetti jewel: “Good players want coached. Great players you can’t coach them enough, they want more, more, more. Inconsistent players want to be coached on their terms.” …(and always have a response or excuse)

Players who respect their current role, fight like dogs to improve that role and give their heart and soul to the opportunities they get tend to shine the brightest. Do those things and make us coaches say your name in discussion. You’re not owed anything but an opportunity.

The weight room is the most influential room in a school. It’s not a place to hang out — it’s a classroom. A place where habits are built, standards are set, and character is developed.

Most infield errors happen before the ball is hit. College infielders know that. Runner on first. Less than two outs. What are you thinking before the pitch? Most players think: “Make the play.” Smarter players think: • Where’s my throw if it’s hit hard? • Where’s my throw if it’s slow? • Do I need one or two? • What can’t happen this inning? College defenders decide before contact. High school defenders decide after it. That’s the gap. If you’re reacting to the ball, you’re late. If you’re anticipating the situation, you’re ahead. High school rewards athleticism. College rewards awareness. That’s Baseball IQ. Built at 15. Proven at 20. Routine Over Flash. #3LeftsBaseball #BaseballIQ

Another Coach: Are you worried other QBs are throwing all winter and your son is playing basketball? Me: Not one bit. He's on two teams. Hes sprinting, jumping, conditioning dribbling, shooting and passing. Hes finding space and closing space and learning to see the floor. Most importantly he's competing. He's competing hard in practices and in games 3 days a week. He's been in close games, overtime games, he's missed some big shots, he's hit some big shots, turned the ball over at the worst possible time and been beat on defense. He's been abused in games by better kids and he's dominated games. He's been happy, sad, pissed, wanted to quit, change teams and wondered how he could be on 🔥 one day and suck so bad the next. He's made new friends and played with different coaches with different personalities. Hes started games and sat the bench. He's been exposed to so much and learning to navigate all of it. So no, I'm not worried. We can start throwing in the spring when he'll probably be sick of hoops and ready for a change. #LTAD

I am not ashamed of my journey. My life will be a testimony. But if I could offer a word of advice to any freshman, sophomore or junior athlete in high school it would be to just listen bro. All them adults in your life not just talking to talk. They been here longer. They done bumped they head already. They trying to save you from doing the same thing. Do not make the mistake of thinking your talent alone is enough. It’s not. Talent open doors. Character and grades keep you there. And if you already messed up, if your GPA not where it should be, if your name been in rooms for the wrong reasons… don’t quit. Keep digging. You can climb out the hole the same way you dug it. Class of 29, 28 and 27 hear me. Take your grades serious.
Choose who you hang around wisely.
Protect your name. Word spreads fast if you a crash out.
Respect authority. Nobody riding for you like your parents and coaches.
Work hard when nobody clapping. Do not wait until senior year to lock in. That GPA do not lie. I’m still figuring it out myself. I’m struggling but I know God got me. Be intentional.
Lock in early. Pray. Show up ready to work. I’m learning the hard way that my future is being built in the small decisions I make today. Start now.
