Super excited to share my project from the 2026 HALO Hackathon, Rating Forecheckers Through Spatial Tree Boosting. This was my first time working with SportLogiq data it was really interesting to see the private data side. #HockeyHALO2026 @elawing1018/rating-forecheckers-through-spatial-tree-boosting-eaa8f68fca6b" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">medium.com/@elawing1018/r…

I was reading the how to pages with the models explained and the formulas basically. This is such a smart human lmfao just getting the idea to run things this way with these specific models is impressive as it is. Likely took a bunch of trial and error but still crazy

Zach Benson was yet another playoff riser for the Sabres by my models, raising his game both offensively and defensively, relative to other forwards. He also became a fan favorite of many people who were unfamiliar with his game before the playoffs

My models have Rasmus Dahlin as a playoff riser in his first playoff appearance. His game rose both offensively and defensively, relative to other defensemen. Excited to see how him and the Sabres do in the future

Mitch Marner has been playing well in the playoffs and is looking to drop the playoff "dropper" label that he had in Toronto. He's played fairly consistently between the regular season and playoffs this season, relative to other forwards, unlike last season with the Maple Leafs

Martin Necas was fairly consistent through the first two rounds of the playoffs compared to the regular season, relative to other forwards. Looks like he played better in the second round overall, since my model had him as more of a faller after the first round

@EDLAnalytics Interesting, I do feel like he picked it up against MIN but this matches what I thought. Thanks!

Encouraging results for Cutter Gauthier in his first playoff run. Was consistent defensively and slightly better offensively, relative to other forwards, when comparing the baseline model to the additional playoff weighting

Another fantastic article from Evan!

Check out my new article, Creating a Playoff Weighted RAPM to Identify Playoff Risers! I created two RAPM models to try to identify players who play better or worse during the playoffs, allowing for more than just the eye test to label players @elawing1018/creating-a-playoff-weighted-rapm-to-identify-playoff-risers-58ff7c65c89b?postPublishedType=initial" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">medium.com/@elawing1018/c…

Big shoutout to @nhlscraper, I wouldn't have been able to do this (or it would have taken me much, much longer) without the package! Let me know your thoughts and suggestions to improve the model!

Ohtani is amazing no doubt, but wemby is probably the best bang for your buck spectacle in sports history, bc either he's going to play 75-80% of the game and do 2-3 things you've never seen before and/or beating him is gonna feel like such a David vs. literal Goliath situation
Julian McKenzie@jkamckenzie

It's between Wembayama and Ohtani for me. I've seen McDavid a few times already, and he's incredible to watch live. Josh Allen is one of the NFL's best, but there are a few players I'd rather see before him. Shohei or Victor, man. It's a coin flip.
