Lawyer and human rights defender, Anacleto Micha Ndong Nlang, has endured over 100 days of unlawful detention in 🇬🇶#EquatorialGuinea. His current whereabouts are unknown as we're hearing disturbing reports that his family and lawyers have been unable to access him since March.

The top ten most corrupt countries, according to the @anticorruption index, are also among the world's most brutal, long-ruling dictatorships. 5 of the bottom 10 are in Africa: Somalia South Sudan Libya Equatorial Guinea Burundi Comoros, Chad and DR Congo aren't far behind.

@TutuAlicante (@EGJustice): #Kleptocracy goes beyond good governance. It is a serious matter of national security. The US and the West have not addressed authoritarian kleptocracy in EG -- they have been negligent in the subversion of democratic values.

Nice to see my piece with @TutuAlicante on Equatorial Guinea's sham election featured in @ForeignPolicy's Africa Brief. In short: the country is ruled by the world's longest-tenured dictator who uses access to oil and threats of Chinese muscle to hold the US Government hostage.

In a change of rhetoric, Paul Kagame vowed to assist East African Community facilitators “to urge” the M23 rebels to withdraw from captured territories in DRC, @nosmotG writes in FP’s Africa Brief. buff.ly/3OEcQBZ

Nice to see my article with @TutuAlicante on Equatorial Guinea gaining traction. The Ukraine/Russia conflict and China are important topics, but the world is much bigger than that. Let's not forget: attention on little-known issues can have outsize impact. foreignpolicy.com/2022/10/17/equ…
